I'd say that under Pep, he would be a perfect rotation option to Rodri and do a solid job when called upon.

People will point to other players that we've "baited" United into getting being useless, but I always suspect those players would have been fantastic or at least good-enough at City, too. Coaching / culture / etc is so important.

I back him. Unless United get him, in which case he's an overrated Sweet Caroline merchant with shite hair.

This 100x

I also think Pogba, Fred and even the fridge will be good if they choose for us back then. Like you said coaching and culture is very important.

If they choose for us back then, they will be a different player. A better player in another time and not a joke of they are right now.

Christ, Pep is a fantastic manager but even he has his limits

Oddly enough, I saw some United fans on Twitter yesterday commenting on the Gaughan story by calling it a “Pep masterclass” as he would lead United into this mediocre signing

Kalvin Phillips going to cost 50 mil plus, Leeds fans saying the club turned down a 50 mil bid in January for him from West Ham. Also that their owner is following the Leicester model

Gaughan may have had that story pre-written to post after Sunday no matter what, but Leeds stayed up, it’s a different scenario. Moreover, who’s to say this isn’t another Koulibaly case of keeping a name in the media’s mouth while we work a better deal behind the scenes without much attention or speculation

I don't think that's what Koulibaly was at all, we 100% wanted him at the club.

Seems some on here can't handle different opinions about transfer targets.

Personally I haven't seen anything special in him and hoped we'd go for a better caliber of player.

Doesn't mean I won't support him if he arrives.

I actually like Phillips signing as a potential short term Fernie replacement & I do think there's an element of this not being a sexy signing as some posters would have hoped for. However, it would be more ideal to pay this much talked about release clause which the City board love to execute rather than submitting a 50mil bid. If there is no release clause, I would look abroad for a cheaper alternative before we go in for Bellingham next year.

Also we should take into consideration risk diversification in snapping up all the English talent at once, since if England do as expected go far in Euros, World Cups etc with waistcoat in charge then inevitably there will be an impact on club performances if it be injuries or fatigue. In this regard, Haaland is the perfect signing for us as I fully expect Harold to be knackered for Spurs after the winter WC later on in the year.

Short term? he's 26.

Decent player, possibly top 6 level but no way he will ever be a Pep player. Too limited on the ball.

That guy Kamara from Olympique de Marseille who has recently joined Aston Villa would have been a better fit than Phillips.
City are waiting until Villa put a 100m release clause then…bang, we go after our man! -:)
