I dunno. I find it weird how Milner gets labelled a snake for stringing the club along and stalling contract negotiations to join the dippers on a free. And when Sterling looks to do the same he’s called a club legend and we should wish him well.
Probably not if he rejoins the dippers though ;)

I havent yet heard Sterling comment on his future or give any ultimatums.

Milner made our club think he was willing to stick around while he was in the process of opening up a Cayman Island bank account.

It’s a respect thing, look at how the club acts with players now - it’s not a slavery market and the way we treat players plays a big part of why we are attractive to join.
Raz not been anywhere near the player he was a couple of seasons ago. So unless he's already said so, politely let the club know you're intentions, respect works both ways.

Agree completely, how on earth anyone can say sterling is a legend is beyond me, he is the legend of spurning chances, I've said it in the past and he is fallen off the edge of a cliff similar to Steven ireland

Appearances for City:

Aguero - 390
Fernandinho - 383
Kompany - 360
Sterling - 339

If he isn't a club legend I don't know what is. If you begin to look at the numbers of goals and assists he's provided in that period, and the number of trophies we won whilst he was a mainstay in the team, then it only reinforces the point.
“Club legend” isn’t a robotic term that you reach by numbers. There is an affection to it. Sterling has contributed but just isn’t a legend in any way or we should be prepared to call way too many players “legends” until that term becomes irrelevant.

Personally I don’t see him as a club legend, but he has played a major role in our recent success and has been pivotal at key moments for us. Therefore he deserves respect, not a statue I grant you but respect all the same.

He is respected, I don’t think we can disagree.

Top signing and a fantastic player but does not want to sign a new deal. An amicable parting of the ways with the club receiving some sort of fee would be ideal.

The argument about walking on a free comes up every season. Imo, the players contribution and attitude should come into the discussion. I am ok with Sterling leaving on a free. Other players like Garcia I did not like but raz has given so much over the years and his professionalism cannot be ignored.

I would like the club to receive a fee but in this case I would not be too upset if he left on a free. He has been frustrating of late but his positive contribution to our success cannot be wiped clean now the narrative has changed surrounding the player.

If he goes it will be with our upmost respect and appreciation.

If we do allow him to leave then we better have someone with similar qualities lined up to come in because he is the only current wide player who can threaten to run in behind the low block that we face week after week. Pep recognised his value to change the game when he subbed him on at 55 minutes because Mahrez was causing Villa no issues.

Putting Cole Palmer and his 2 league games ahead of Sterling and his 150 goals for the club did a really good job of illustrating how bad this take is.

Having Sterling stay another 2 or 3 years will affect Palmers development and could see him leave for first team football, I know any of the wingers leaving could create space but Sterling seems closest to leaving (along with Jesus)

what about the other 5?

I’d love to know which players you’d put ahead of Sterling if forced to choose

Who's to say depending on next season Sterling could easily sign a new deal if he's getting gametime and doing well, don't think he can go anywhere better.

Is he not getting game time now?

I'd keep him if he's willing to sign a contract extension, otherwise, I don't see the sense in keeping a player for a year who plans to leave for free, so I'd sell him in that circumstance.

That simple for me. Literally the exact same with Jesus and Mahrez also, sign an extension or we should aim to get a fee.

I like all 3 players, they have been important in there own right to the club and would keep any who would commit long term.

So if Mahrez and Sterling want to go, we need 2 new wingers. Palmer is not a first-team material. We have the shortest squad in the league and we couldn't rely only on Haaland, Foden, Grealish, and possibly Alvarez. From the great attacking power, we are becoming simply short in terms of options.
