My actual opinion on Sterling is - good player, was world class at one point, but quite limited in some ways. His goal scoring record is impressive, but I have learnt that just looking at a players top line stats is rarely, if ever, a good way to judge them.

Werner and Lukaku both had prolific seasons before arriving at Chelsea, so clearly just looking at Sterling's goals/assists numbers at City isn't the best indicator of how he'll fare at Chelsea or any other club, when the environment, culture, system, coaching, teammates will be totally different at the new club.

Overall I think we should be aiming higher than Sterling anyway, and preferably younger too. Nkunku fits the bill for the kind of player I would aim to get for example.

Was never world class, always below absolute top drawer but still better than most. I think he would be great at a Dortmund but if he leaves and goes to a top Spanish club like Madrid or Barca it would be very bad for him. I like the lad and if he goes I hope he picks somewhere based on football not prestige or the bottom line.

Foden________Haaland________Sterling
______Bernardo________KDB
________________Rodri

Bearing in mind that Mahrez is turning 32 this season, Walker is turning 32 in a few days & Cancelo seems preferred by many as first choice left back, I think the above could well be our best front 6 next season as we can't expect Walker to keep charging up & down the wings forever to give us the width.

Also with Mahrez I feel he is more suited to the false 9 system where the wingers chip in the majority of the goals, you'd think that won't be the case next season so IMO Sterling will be vital, as he was with Sane & Aguero...

Very clear pre & post lyon difference in the player. Lacks confidence.

A bit like Adama Traore.. amazing vs City but shit vs others.

Sterling likewise is amazing where he has room to run in behind or where a striker draws more attention so he's ignored and can tap in.

Very bad ball control which is a major con in a possession based team..

Wouldn't mind a younger player like say Cole Palmer be Sterlings replacement who according to pep has the biggest nose for goal in the squad.
Whatever you think of Sterling as a player, to compare him to Adama Traore is a borderline section-able offence.

For his 131 goals for the club, a number of them crucial to silverware.
Whenever he goes he will be remembered fondly, just not statue fondly. We have been lucky to see some great and very good players, rating them is really down to opinion. The fact he doesn’t get overwhelming praise based on his ability tells you the whole story really.

And every game 3 balls in out net…
We need +1 one player aside Rodri to control the game. Bernardo is not the one. He is attacking player, KDB too.

It tells me an awful lot.

Probably not the same as some might think though.

Not sure thats true mate. Bernardo played deeper a lot more this season and all weve done is swapped haaland for whoever was false 9.

Not completely against that idea but again we will lose a great deal if Mahrez goes
I think we are about to go into a mini rebuild phase, the problem is we have a squad of very good players so whoever goes will be controversial. People need to remember that it’s not just down to the manager or ability but also the player and their age. I would keep every one and add some more buts that’s obviously not realistic or likely to work.

If we had to choose some would pick mahrez or sterling or Jesus etc...

The price of success is saying goodbye to some of your favourite players.

Personally I think Raz will leave, but I stand by my comment that we are a better team with him on the right (as we are with Foden on the left) because it stretches the opposition and creates the space for the number 8’s. The Villa game one of the clearest examples.
Yes I love Mahrez but he’s not getting any younger. My preference would be to keep Jesus and Raz-their incessant running and energy brings so much to this team.

Sterling is quality, there is no doubt for the vast majority on this. However he is not clinical and is one of these players known for not being clinical.

When he goes through I am never confident.

We are stuck on this one as no one will buy him for a few we would accept and pay the wages he would expect. I couldn’t see us getting £50 million for example.

So we either need to sign him up or let him run his contract down.

For him he is on high wages now, he can probably match those with a renewal or a deal elsewhere. There is no real incentive to sign unless he really wanted to commit himself to the club.

The upshot of that is we are changing our system, he is up against some competition for the wings and at 27 he probably wants to be a first team starter in all big games.

He will no doubt see how next season go and decide.

I would have him stay think he brings a lot but I’m not sure what will happen.

All I know is he won’t be sold this season.

Also worth noting this running your contract down is only going to happen more and more in my opinion.

If the talk on here is to be believed:-) then Jesus seems very likely raz Likely or seeing out his contract and Mahrez who knows. I would like Jesus to stay so that’s just my tough luck I’m guessing. At least one maybe two will have to leave I would have thought.

Whoever leaves it’ll be sad-all been great for us. Serial winners.

The most logical is Mahrez due to age but it is tough to choose a player to leave and not lose too much (even with the incoming Haaland)
