Pep really rates Bilsa. If the latter has convinced Pep that Phillips is good enough to play for City, Pep will be swayed.

Not convinced myself when playing for Leeds. Whenever I see him play for England he seems much better.

Even better players and manager at city as well?

A second source repeating what the first source ( who we know to be a bellend) said.
By this time next week, it will be 80 million.
It's click bait time on the twateraty .

Yep! The usual crew suckered into it! Same as Haaland deal? We were going to pay £500,000 a week because the media said so? Even more laughable the release fee for Haaland was only €60m and not €75m!?! The media besides a select couple for city know FUCK ALL and will always paint a money side against the club.

I wonder if this may get done quickly with him being in England now? Fee agreed already, medical and signing next week and then he can go on his holidays knowing his future is sorted and then Straight back for pre season?

The aim for both signings remaining is to have them wrapped up before preseason and shit should hit the fan after Tuesday when the national teams are done. It shouldn’t be impossible to have both done by July

If Pep being a CDM means he will be able to find the best CDM available, then surely Alan Ball could have found the best RW on the market.

He didn’t as it doesn’t work like that.
Who said anything about finding the best CDM available? I said as a former CDM he would be able to get the most out of Phillips. Pep is incredibly intelligent so as a former great CDM he would understand the nuances of this position better than most.

I'm just trying to look on the positive side regarding this signing

If you disagree then that's fine.

Did Alan Ball get the most out of his right wingers? No.

It’s nothing to do with how Pep was as a player.

It’s all to do with how he coaches his players. In all positions.

Kalvin Phillips is class, seen it for Leeds, they fall apart without him and he was excellent for England last summer.

Some may have doubts based on what they’ve seen, but far too many spoilt nowadays and want Messi level players across the entire squad.

Brings legs to midfield which we've lacked since Fernandinho aged.
Can pick a pass.
Takes a half decent set piece.
Similar for penalties.
Leeds fan so he'll have grown up with a dislike for the scum over the road.

He's a similar mould to a younger Fernandinho. I'm really looking forward to this if we get it over the line. He'll also massively compliment Rodri - how often have we said he's been at his best this season with a runner (Bernardo) next to him?

Just go for SMS at Lazio. Much taller, better defensive stats, more versatile, much better in possession, averages 14 g/a per season since 2016, less injury prone.

Probably available for 60 and would replace Fernandinho and Gundogan if he was to leave.

Stop comparing Alan Ball and Pep. One is the greatest manager in the history of the game. Don't compare the knowledge he can pass on and articulate to players compared to other coaches.

If you don't think that a guy as intelligent as Pep, who was one of the great CDM's, who played over 260 games in this position wouldn't have the ability and understanding to get the most out of another player in this position, then you have rocks in your head.

You’re killing your own argument here.

Pep is in a different stratosphere as a coach to Alan Ball.

This isn’t because of how good they were as players or what position they played. That’s irrelevant.

It‘s simply because Pep can communicate better with players and has a better understanding of tactics across the board.

Obviously it's not because of how good they were as footballers. It's more to do with Peps mentality. On how meticulous he is as both a coach and a player.

He played over 250 games as a CDM, and as someone who studied the game like he did, wouldn't he be in a great position to pass on that vast knowledge to Phillips?

Yes he can coach any position, but he would have more insight into this position than any other.

I don't want to derail this thread though. I'm all for the signing and I believe Pep will get the most out of Phillips.

So we‘re agreed, Pep’s coaching is nothing to do with his playing career.

Completely agree that Peps knowledge of the CDM position having played this himself as a player, will be of great benefit to Phillips. Looking forward to him signing on.

Lol, it’s a wonder any right winger ever signed for us. What with Pep having no experience of playing there.
