We can all say what we like about Phillips, In Rodders first season he was getting pelters on here, "Looks like he's towing a caravan", "He's not good enough", "He's too slow" blah blah blah...

Now he's the best holding midfield player in Europe.

Very very rare Pep gets it wrong in the transfer market, If Phillips signs for us without doubt Pep will make him a better player not even debatable.

Trust Pep with this one.
Fair enough opinion.....but no I won't;)

I'll wait to see him play for us before I'll be eating any humble pie. YouTube highlights have a tendency of overstating a players abilities. The individual full match compilations are better to gauge but I can't seem to find any on YouTube.
You mean the truth hurts and you can`t bring yourself to say you got it totally wrong.Pictures don`t lie.

I don't agree. I think Ake was exceptional when he played towards the back end of the season and I'd like to see him and Dias paired as Laporte looked shakey.

Not sure how that translates to Philips but I'm not seeing a wealth of quality midfielders either.
Laporte looked shaky?

If he signs absolutely no way he will be a back up. It just doesn't work that way. Phillips will be part of the rotation system along with all the other midfielders. Pep's been here 6 years and people still don't understand how he works

Last night offered further proof that he’s tenacious and good at his defensive duties but that he has the technical ability of a championship player.

If we pay anywhere near 60m for him we deserve all the stick that comes our way.

Do you really care what others think?

He played two or three sloppy passes last night in fairness but also 2 or 3 nice long diagonal ones that were on the money? Put his foot in, made himself available to help out others in tight spaces and seemed comfortable on the ball. I wonder how much an potential impending transfer plays on the mind with regards tackling etc?

Bang average and frankly we let players go from our academy who by the time they reach his age will be miles better. Just how we are even being linked with him is very worrying! In fact he's that crap he makes Jack Rodwell look like Rodri.

Idiots still deem players they don`t like as "back ups".
Tell that to Pep and he`ll laugh at you ... and so he should.

No, I mean I'm not going to be a simpleton and judge a player off their YouTube highlights reel. You could make a compilation like that for dozens, and I mean dozens, of Prem players. Xhaka, Partey, Hojbjerg, Douglas Luiz, Keita, Allan, Fred, I could go on and on. Are any those players I've just listed good enough on a technical level for us?

He came on last night and put in an average cameo. Started brilliantly by playing a great ball over the top but then proceeded to give it away carelessly. His positioning seemed clumsy. His touches and movement seem static, compared to Rice who had been drifting and dribbling past players with ease (incidentally something our Rodders is capable of). By the end of the match he'd degraded into mediocrity; maybe a little unfair because by that point he was surrounded by mediocrity, but the point stands.

Pep isn't going double pivot next season. Haaland is a guaranteed starter, that would leave three to select from Grealish, Foden, De Bruyne, Gundo, Alvarez, Mahrez, Bernie; and that's assuming Sterling and Jesus leave! We're not restricting ourselves like that to accommodate Kalvin Phillips. That will mean he'll be a squad player, fair enough. But I think we can do a lot better for the prices we're willing to hit; in my opinion a more versatile, top class/potentially world class midfielder who can play multiple positions.

I'll back the club and I'll get behind the player, I've nothing against him. But as of right now, especially for £60mil, I don't think he's anywhere near good enough for us. No amount of YouTube footage is going to sway me. He can help change my mind if and when he pulls on our shirt.

Spot on mate.
