It's Quiet 17 - Glory Thread

i think city will make an agreement with Bernardo to let him go on a much cheaper deal next year (set at like £50m guaranteed) if he really wants to go and then city put all the money towards Bellingham.

There’s no player I’d accept in Bernardo position except Bellingham. Would be insane to try replace

What do u think personally think Ahsan, u think IF Barca get the 80-100m required (thru their economic levers or whatever its called ) - city allow him to go despite their reluctance? OR will city do what we usually don't, tell them to respect their contract, so he is just so important as our midfield engine

Oh they'll sell him. Guardiola hates "sad faces" in the dressing room and in training. If Mendes can find someone to bring 100 million euros they'll take it. But I think it is virtually impossible for Barcelona to reach those sort of figures. I'm massively unimpressed with the public nature of all of this too. They all know the deal, just do it quietly and if the money comes then he gets his move. The very fact that it's so open and Barca are briefing things like "City will sell" suggests that someone is trying to force the issue.

it looks like some kind of equity release advert you see on ITV 4.

You are closer than you think…. They are cashing in on an asset over the long term at pretty much it’s value today…. They will probably regret this Because they will lose circa 25 per cent of any upside in the future.

Right on cue the Barca propaganda continues. How this money magically appears

And this is the issue, the fear of rejection…

If any player can leave with his head held high, leaving it all out on the pitch, it’s Bernardo….as in life, sometimes you have to let things you love go, before it turns bitter, where I’d imagine we’ve all stayed too long, somewhere or other…

If they can find the money, and he's really unhappy, I wish him all the best. He should go. But first they have to find the money, and the fact that it is supposed to be Barcelona who want him and where he wants to go, makes me very suspicious because we all know their financial situation. If this was PSG or Madrid I don't think it would play out publicly because both those clubs would pay the money. Barcelona and their press are acting like fools, and I wonder if it's at Mendes' behest.

My biggest concern is Bernardo's attitude when he returns to pre-season training. He trained badly last pre-season and didn't really get his head together until after the window had closed. If he pitches up like that again it will be tantamount to trying to force a move and would show a real lack of professionalism. The reality is Barcelona's financial situation is well documented. They cannot afford to pay us 100 million euros for him, in fact I'd guess they can't even pay half of that.

I don't particularly like FDJ as a replacement either. I don't want to do Barcelona any favours. They have to find the money and pay it to take Bernardo. Otherwise they, along with Mendes, can fuck right off. They signed a long contract at City and Mendes will have taken his cut from that too. They are in the Kane boat in that City are under absolutely no pressure to sell him and have years left on his deal.

That vote for Barca yesterday is massive. Laporte now knows he has the Barca members that own the majority of shares of the club on his side. Which means anything goes to bring money in. He’s already pushed through you can pay 350 euros to have a full eleven a side game at the stadium. Or pay 2 grand to get married at the stadium.

He’s now pushing the naming rights to sell to the highest bidder for the stadium. Full media rights , image rights etc anything goes. It could ruin Barcelona over time but they are increasingly desperate right now I don’t think they care at board level.

Teams like Barca and Madrid will always find ways to evade financial ruin. They're sporting institutions in Spain, and they use surreptitious methods, oftentimes involving national banks, to ease the burden. It's why the hypocrisy of our club being state-funded is rank, and why a Super League is an inevitability at this stage.

You are right and both clubs have benefited from both local and state government subsidies, loans, dodgy land deals etc and major banks were giving soft loans at preferential rates and often didn’t call the loans in but Spain is skint, local government is on its knees and the banks are struggling - so hence Tebas outrage - the goose has stopped laying golden eggs.

The thing is, their wage cap is what it is. That won't change this summer. They can't even register Kessie, Christensen etc. Gavi's new deal isn't signed probably because they can't afford to give him that pay bump. I simply don't see feasibly how they can add the likes of Lewandowski and Bernardo without selling several players, not just FDJ. I also don't see United paying 100 million euros for him when he isn't even sold on the move. Feels like a lot of smoke and mirrors.

Losing Bernardo while understandable if he wants to go would be a huge blow. There’s not many obvious replacement, I always thought Bellingham was the intended replacement but that won’t be for another season. Means a season with an obvious deficiency in the squad.

For next year, presumably. But this is a one-off income so they will be right back at -144 the year after presumably, less even as they have sold some of their future income. Is that how it works? If so, they must be really hoping for their ESL windfall ....
Didnt even think of next year, no idea how they get that one

I think we could survive. You could move Phil into that position and you'd still have Sterling, Mahrez, Grealish, Palmer and potentially even Alvarez for the two wide spots. I'd rather we banked the money and bought Bellingham next summer. There'd be little point in going out and spending big money on a replacement this summer if Bellingham is the one they really want.

Well I have seen Madrid linked with him for THIS Season for 90m Euros, though I have big doubts as they have already lost Haaland

If Pique and Frenkie de Jong go they could do it. Pique is on ridiculous money behind the scenes bonuses etc Pique one of their best captains behind the scenes is ruining them wage wise. It’s why they are desperate for him to retire/leave. They already owe him a lot of money. If he goes that wage bill changes.

Spanish press are sly, they are using Piques break up as an excuse for unprofessional behaviour so they can push him to leave / retire its fucked up what they are trying to do but Barca are desperate to keep the image of one of the best in the world

I think that's far too risky personally and would massively hinder us. Bernardo is not only a fantastic footballer but he's also Mr 14km a game. It's rare to have such a blend of skill and graft.

If Bernardo goes the club would have to replace him IMO. They could still push for a replacement and get Bellingham next summer because of Gundogans contract IMO.

Final thing. With how condensed this season is we need depth now more than ever. It's not the time to be letting goes go and not replace them. Five subs and every midweek gap filled means there will always be chances for players to be rotated. We have to utilise it

If someone actually met the £100 million asking price for Bernardo we’d definitely go for Bellingham this window and I doubt Dortmund would turn down the money.

I’d agree with that plus Phil is our best left wing at present. I think if Bernardo goes we have to test the water for Bellingham this season. No guarantees his head won’t be turned between now and next summer.

Absolutely love Bernardo and hope he signs an extension but every summer for the last 2/3 years has been the same. It’s quite annoying now actually
