Michael Owen

Thing is although at the time he was a Liverpool legend the crowd never really warmed to him like Fowler.. sometimes these Mary Poppins image type players like Shearer.. Lineker etc are sometimes hard for fans to relate to who much prefer a Gazza or Fowler.. and going further back your Best.. Bowles.. Marsh and Summerbee’s of this world.

A lot of City supporters didn’t like Marsh.

Mrs Vienna absolutely detested him. Conversely, I used to know a guy, who told me he had a T-shirt with RODNEY MARSH IS GOD on the front.

He divided opinion like very few other Blues have.

If you notice the game nowadays doesn’t breed characters like the 1970s early 80s... every team had its Mavericks.. Southampton Mick Channon.. QPR had Stan Bowles.. George Best was there ofcorse along with Tony Currie, Frank Worthington. Liverpool had your Terry MCDermott.. Jimmy Case and Ray Kennedy.. United.. Robson.. Whiteside MCGrath..
Footballers usually fell into one of the vices... Gambling.. Womanizing or Drinking... some had all three haha.. modern footballers are mostly tea total and have been conditioned by there clubs to act like robots both on and off the pitch.

Robson, a character?

He was a boring bastard, if you ask me.

I remember seeing Robson in the Romper near the airport with a couple of other players. It was only mid-afternoon (I think it was a Thursday) but they'd clearly had a few. All probably playing a couple of days later.
First thing Ferguson did when he arrived at United was to break up Robson.. Whiteside and McGrath because of the booze culture at the time... read Terry MCDermotts book and he says him and Robson were always leathered in the players lounge and hung around together outside on occasions..
