It's Quiet 17 - Glory Thread

A key differentiator for Mahrez is that, unlike Jesus and Sterling - with a year left on his contract, he actually wants to stay at City.

Neither of the other two showed any interest is signing the extensions we offered them - so we either sold this summer, or lost them for nothing.

Mahrez is also far less reliant on pace, strength and stamina (all characteristics which diminish with age).

His game is all about skill, trickery and vision - which are less reliant on the energy of youth.

I’d argue he’s more likely than Sterling to be playing at the top well into his thirties.
I don't know what people here have against mahrez. I love him a ton and he brings so much to the team. One of the best wingers in the league.

Completely agree mate.

He goes missing, for sure - he can be brilliant, but he can be equally frustrating too - but overall he’s a fantastic option to have in the squad, and brings a unique unpredictability to our play when on form which is extremely difficult for defenders to counter.

He also scores a lot of goals - something which can’t be underestimated when we’re as profligate as we are!

Well yeah, that's an evident differentiation and it's not a criticism I am aiming at City, who offered contracts to all 3. I'm not saying City should or could have done more to appeal to Jesus or Sterling to stay - just stating that of the 3, I would have preferred to keep those 2 and lost Mahrez.

With the ball at his feet, yep he is less reliant on those traits. However, with all our players when they don't have the ball they have to press, a lot. That requires pace, stamina, strength etc.

He doesn’t look as though he’s working hard, which opens him up to criticism when he’s not playing well.

Gundogan was the same until he went on his scoring spree and now he’s appreciated more. Along with his Mr Whippy name.

Contrast that to players like Delph, Zinchenko etc and they get more slack because they look like they’re working hard, however they are playing.

Think it's the penalty vs west ham, I don't know why but I noticed an extreme amount of hate towards him for that. Baffling to think why seeing how he scored so many vital penalties for us the last 2 seasons

Why not go for a 2 year extension then? He has a year left on his contract. He'd have little resale value either way, so it just seems odd to think he'd add much value at 34/35 when he'll still be on a wedge. More than happy to be wrong as I do like Mahrez, but it just seems odd.
May or may not be 2 or 3 or he may not get an extension. Its all rumours. If it is 3 and not 2 it tends to come with a lower wage (not a guarantee).
What matters really is if hes still delivering, has any signs of injuries, good influence etc. and i think hes good on all of those things.
Mahrez is 31 so 3 years takes him to 34.
KDB already has a contract to 34. Fern went til 37.
Ultimately of the 3 he was probably most wanting to stay because of his personal situation and hes a great player to have.

That’s a fair point about the energy required for our pressing game - and it may be that diminishes a little as he gets older.

But let’s be honest - we have so much of the ball, his upside in what he brings to our play for the 70/75% of most games where we’re on the ball way outweighs any advancing limitations to his pressing.

14 assists ain't bad and 5 CL Goals in 7
He's the turd that just will not flush ;-)
Showed his mentality when he went to PSG, after he shook his arse at us multiple times previously to get pay rises.
Confirmed LaLiga babby thats been content to stat-pad since Xavi and Iniesta left Barca.

Fair and I do like Mahrez - he has the best first touch of any City player I've seen. Happy to be proven wrong and I hope he does well.

I think Mahrez could be frightening this year, with a proper striker in Haaland now up top and occupying defenders, I can see mahrez getting a lot more space / more 1v1s, and he is arguably the most deadly in those situations (more so than Sterling or Jesus would be).

This is Liverpool's Twitter corresponding to Salah's agent

Salah also posted a random Pic on his holidays around the same time. Open negotiations?

It's all going sour. To be fair, the agent is most likely a bellend if he's taking to Twitter to post cryptic, wind-up messages like that. Remember us with Seluk...?

Not that it doesn't make it hilarious that the dippers will be pissed off, mind.

Nvm... Seems he's signing a new contract
