Though it isn't really, it is funny how with every resignation anouncement you don't get a feeling the country has lost a valuable asset.

The country is in paralysis in terms of governing, but he’ll almost certainly be forced out by next week, after which there will then be a prolonged leadership contest before the country presumably goes to the polls before Christmas.

It is an election that no party will really want to win. No party has a plan nor the means to tackle the seriousness of the crisis facing the country. It is a Conservative-made catastrophe and they really ought to be held responsible, not let off the hook, but as you say, the quality of those resigning is uninspiring.

We are in a very difficult position now as Johnson is going to have to be basically physically dragged from office. Unfortunately this is exactly what he wants and indeed needs for the framing of his historical legacy of being PM. If he were to just resign now, in many years time when he dies it will be reported as 'former PM Boris Johnson died today, he was forced to resign in 2022 after being caught lying about......etc, etc'. What he wants now is to leave number 10 in a way no PM has done before to feed his narcissistic ego around him being special and better than everyone else.
