Nathan Ake

If Ake was happy to stay City would keep him, however he obviously wants guaranteed game time at Chelsea, so thanks for your efforts and goodbye.
I’m sure City will be lining someone up, either promising youngster or mature been there done it player.
I don’t think that’s the case at all. As with Bernardo it’s not black and white.

Would Ake consider a move to Chelsea Yes

Is Ake unhappy and wants to go No

Its like you are in a well paid job you love and you aren’t looking for a new one, but then you are headhunted and offered more money…you might still go.

Ake isn’t at Pep’s door saying I want to go because I want to play more games.

It is City who are thinking they could get a shed load of money, now Chelsea have approached us, and replace him for cheaper.

Is it out of the realms of possibility that Mbete replaces Ake next year? I remember when Grealish signed there was a clip of Lescott asking him if he'd played against Luke yet which implies that he is highly rated and he is 19 in September. At some point, we do need to start properly integrating these young lads who have lots of potential like Mcatee, Palmer, Mbete etc. having said that, I would understand if the club wanted to replace Ake with an experienced international defender. It's going to be interesting as this clearly wasn't something the club had planned for, unlike the Fernandingo replacement

I would love it, if it were possible and the club felt confident to let Mbete (same goes for Palmer) have a real go in the team.

I just don't think they do and I fully understand why. And I do thibk the risk would be too big, given the investment in the squad and desire to win things, and keep Pep fired up and enjoying it.

I still expect both Ake and Raz to be replaced, but happy to see what happens.

You think City initiating this? Nah

I agree Ake appeared settled, but if opportunity to do more in the job you do (play) and get paid possibly more then everyone would consider it.
City on record saying they’ll stop no one if valuations met.

This just like any transfer.

Don't think that is the case, don't really see how it is possible either.

City can accept bids all they want for players, if the player doesn't want to move, there is no initiating that can make it happen. Like Zinchenko for example.

Ake had to have been up for this move for it to have gone anywhere. The club might help it along by not digging in over a high fee, but that's about as much initiating as they would or can do I think.

Ake probably sees that Chelsea play with a back 3 and right now, they have a 37 year old Silva, Trevor chalobah and 32 year old Azpilicueta (who may be out the door) as options

Even if they get in another CB, which they will, he'd back himself over Chalobah and Azpilicueta for a spot in the first XI

He goes back to the club he started, Chelsea get a CB who's better than they have, we get a very good fee for a player who is our 4th choice whos struggled with injuries.....and let's be honest, Chelsea signing Ake isn't a threat to us if you want to drop the "strengthening a rivla" comment, if Chelsea weren't in such a mess Ake wouldn't be starting for them

Seems like everyone wins

Perhaps I worded it badly. I think Chelsea have approached City not the other way around. Ake is open to a move if City can get the money they want otherwise he is happy to stay.

My point is that Ake has not asked to leave.

Really think that you are way off here

CITY are - IMO - simply reacting professionally to a situation brought about by Chelsea's approach and Ake's seeming willingness to consider the move

In those circumstances - we should all expect out management to get the best price etc.

Yeah that’s not what I meant read the posts above.

Ive changed the original post to avoid confusion!

It’s amazing how many posters suddenly turn on seemingly departing players. Like spoilt children it’s pathetic. Anyone can see Ake has improved immensely and will be missed should he go.

To say we don’t even need to replace him is complete madness. Question this and the default answer seems to be.... “doesn’t matter we have haaland now”. let’s make our already stretched squad smaller than last season with the most condensed scheduled season about to commence. History has shown we need 4 capable Cbs to compete in the league. Liverpool’s fourth choice Gomez has just signed a new deal we need a player of that standard at least.

No doubt will be the same posters moaning when pep has to practically throw away the fa cup in April due to lack of squad depth.

We'd need a replacement for him if he goes, without doubt. We've done this before - you can't carry only 3 centre halves going into a season.

I think they really rate Mbete and will use him as the 4th CB if Ake goes, would much rather have THB not out on loan for me he's our best young CB.
Hope Ake stays though.

I think there's less risk associated with bedding in Palmer/McAtee as forward options - hence when we are seeing suggestions we aren't replacing Sterling etc. We have postionally flexible midfielders/forwards that can fit into these roles in a crisis.

With CB, we already have 3 that have struggled for fitness for periods over the past couple of seasons. I'd love Mbete to get a shot. He may be a revelation if thrown in the deep end, but I think we're playing with fire if we pick up one or two injuries at CB. We have senior players that could slot in (Rodri, Walker, Phillips), but I don't think it's nearly as natural as using someone like Bernardo / KDB as a RW if we have an injury crisis in our forward department.

The club clearly have plans for Mbete - trained with the 1st team last season and just signed a new contract - but I can't see the club taking the risk by not signing someone if Ake goes.

In my view, the solution is to get in an experienced head that can play 10-15 games a season and doesn't mind playing the back up role and have him competing with Mbete for that 4th choice slot. Adequate cover, in case of injuries, but still not blocking Mbete's route to the first team.

I just don't see the point in going out and signing a Kounde, Gvardiol, Torres for £50m as we'll just be backing having this discussion next year when one of our CBs is complaining about game time.

If he thinks he will get more game time at Chelsea then its understandable in a World Cup year why he would consider the move..

He's a lovely guy with just above average defensive abilities, he doesn't possess the pace or the passing ability to be considered a really top centre back.

Nathan is always playing on the fine margins between a great, last-ditch tackle, or being left for dead.

Doesn't not make him a suitable fourth-choice defender for us, but that's all he is and would have been hiding behind the sofa each week if he had become anything other.

I ask myself the question, would I look forward to him marking Haaland next season, and the answer would be yes please!

I'm sure City will have a plan as we would have three CBs at the World Cup this year.
He is faster than all our central defenders for a start so I don’t know what you would consider our other defenders.

Why are you so negative about Ake though?

He is just a squad player here that has an opportunity to be something greater at chelsea.

Who here wouldn’t take that switch if such an opportunity arises ?

Ake news coming out online

One Chelsea based outlet saying Chelsea started with a 30m bid, city value Ake at 50m

I don’t see the post from Tolm as negative, more an honest balanced assessment of Ake, which IMO is pretty much bang on the money.
My only fear would be going into the season with just 3 recognized CH’s in this bizarre looking season. Especially with one being ‘Porcelain John’ but I have absolute trust in my club who will more than have this covered..,., De Ligt anyone ;-))
