Could walker not provide CB cover, possible option if LB strengthened
What do you mean by cover? If say Dias and Stones are both out at the same time for say 4 weeks can we get by with Walker/Rodri/Phillips and Stones in the Prem without possibly dropping 4 to 6 points...that could cost you a title...or get you knocked out of the CL...especially depending on who you're playing against...why put the club at such risk? It makes no sense to construct a team like ours and leave yourself short for no good reason...to keep money you weren't planning on having and have it only because Ake chose to leave? What if one of the current 3 suffers a long term injury? Now what? Go begging for someone's surplus to requirements to come on...with everyone knowing you're stuck...this has got to be the dumbest, most meaningless, debate I 've seen in some time...if Ake leaves you take that money and buy another CB...if it happens to be for a less or equal amount, great...if you have to add 10, 15 or 20 mil more for an upgrade that works too...what are we talking about?

Looking at the official Sterling announcement by Chelsea, impressive how his hair has grown a good 3 inches since his last photos in a Chelsea kit yesterday and the day before. For most people that would take a few months, but Raz manages it in less than 48 hours.
LMAO

As well as Rodders and Phillips, in an emergency.

That said, I still think trying to get an experienced pro in at twilight of career will be our plan, maybe have another go for Bonucci?
Agree but Bonucci not for me. Need someone who can play high line

I don't disagree mate, I meant if Ake goes and City don't identify a suitable replacement. I have no idea what or who a suitable replacement would be or how much willing to spend. That is the challenge for the club.

Yet Ake has 25 starts in the Prem, 3 in the Champions league and 3 in cups (so 31 overall) in his TWO seasons here....not per season

Given Dias had a bad time with injuries this year, Laporte had a bad time last year and Stones has struggled in both....you'd argue that Ake would've played even less
Completely ignores the fact virtually everybody needs a year to settle and generally features less in their first season, he was injured for the majority of his first season and barely played at all and he would have played more last season particulary towards the end if he wasn't injured again.

Even ignoring all those factors, 12 games a season where you're playing somebody out of position or somebody who is as yet unreliable is way too many games.

How many of those minutes did Ake play at left back ????
Signing Cucurella would diminish those minutes even more.
We have 2 months of club football after the transfer window closes & then the world cup. Our 1st game after the world cup is days before January window opens so if Ake decides to go then its unlikely that senerio happens & thinks its a calculated risk to start the season with 3 cbs.

If Ake goes go to Chelsea, I'm sure the club will have players in mind who have the required abilities. I don't see Bonucci being that player.

Whether a short-term solution or a more expensive signing with the ability to become one of our regular central defenders, the recruitment team will already know who they would like.

How much we want to spend atm I have no idea.

Would gladly trade Ake for Colwill + cash. he's insanely talented.

He is talented for sure but is he any better than our own CB prospects? Not so sure.
Also think Chelsea have concerns about his fitness record. He had a very good season on loan at Huddersfield but still only managed 29 apps.
I think I’d rather let a mid table outfit take the risk on him and maybe revisit in a couple of years if he is significantly outperforming the likes of THB, Doyle, Mbete etc
