Liam Delap | £16m bid from Southampton rejected

If Southampton are bidding they must have had some encouragement from the delap camp

I wonder if this has ever been done before.
A 2 year loan with the option to make it permanent at the end of the loan (for £23m) - but the option belongs to city not Southampton.
I.e. we can make them buy him at the end if we want to or call him back if not.

Be good option that but can’t see them going for it because they are selling club they want to buy cheap sell big

Pleased the club turned down the deal. If we are going to play with an out and out striker it makes sense to have an additional back up as Alvarez is coming off a full season in Argentina, without any break, and Haaland we dont know how he will cope, injury wise, over a full season in the Premiership.

5 subs next season, absolutely no reason he should not get game time.
I agree with this.

With him we only have 3 strikers anyway and all i'm hearing recently, from people on the outside and even on here, is that we need another forward, Haaland get's a lot of injuries, Alvarez will hit the wall, so if any of them are true, we are going to need Delap!

It would be wise to keep him.

That bloke they got from our academy knows who to go for doesn’t he? Kinell. Haha.

Would be good if we do sell providing we get a buy back in there somehow. Prefer a loan, mind.

We're able to pick 5 subs from 9 next season I think; Haaland does have a history of some injuries so will not play every game and Alvarez has come from south America so will need to get used to a new country, a new way of playing plus I think he's been playing quite a bit of football. I think we'll need Delap plus he is a highly promising striker. I hope we keep him, Palmer and McAtee.

All bids should always be rejected too he's still too young to consider selling because strikers are a very expensive commodity in football and even if he went on loan there now scoring 7-8 goals all season I'd still expect a good bit more than that price, he's young and under contract until 2026 no way should we entertain anything below £25m (even at this time just based on potential) as he's such a highly regarded English prospect it's a wait and see what happens kinda thing with Liam the gamble is worth it.

Just one very good loan in the championship, say a goal every 2 games with his physicality causing major issues he gets guaranteed £25m-£30m offers teams would take the gamble, plus an impressive campaign in the Prem causing havoc to seasoned pro's and a goal every 3 games would get £35m-£45m+... as strikers are what everyone wants it should strictly be loan offers we're considering it would be extremely foolish to accept any transfer offers for him right now.

Even if he doesn't make it here he should be seen as a potentially very expensive asset for us long-term just look at Tammy Abraham now, they're saying Roma wouldn't take less than £65m yet all that happened with him was a few loans away then scored a good few for Chelsea who thought they got good deal for him but they didn't and Roma are laughing, Liam Delap could be even more expensive than the fee Chelsea received like I've already said and that's whether or not he has a first team future here so loans only please.

The bloke from the academy, from Manchester City the Champions of England to Southampton, great career move.....not

He is approaching 20 and has had abour 4 minutes of football. He is unlikely to just get thrown into significantly more.

It is a great move for him. Southampton are well known as a showcase for young players and have been a stepping stone for many players. He should be jumping at it. Particularly if they pay big for him, they will play him.

There is no point keeping him here, it is of no use to anyone.
