Bayern Munich (Friendly) | Post Match Thread

I’m glad someone saw the funny side of things! The “juicy” Private Message I received from one such poster would suggest humour is not a universal concept, esp when it comes to the word “plastic”?!

I was called it for not driving 8 hrs to see the game at Lambeau and thought it was hilarious. Humour is personal, I guess!

;-)

P.S. Not biting on that juicy worm you dangled!

You are perhaps the person the furthest from the Etihad who has a Season ticket.
Who called you a "plastic" ?
I will banjo them at Filbert Street next week.

Bit of a Curate’s egg for me.

Yes it’s only pre season but the way Harland took his goal is exactly what we’ve been missing the past couple of seasons.

Clearly on here JWE is highly rated but felt he was out of position upfield too many times and ended up in a foot race to get back.

Hopefully this is part of a learning curve for him.

Thought Rico Lewis was a great sub, wasn’t fazed by the situation and really tried to drive forward.
Fucking hell, spell his name right! God knows it must have appeared in print 50 million times recently.

Stayed up until midnight but then gave up after the weather delays and just watched the highlights this morning instead. You never get the same impression from just highlights but seems were pretty sharp for only a second game of pre season.

Some questions answered already for me...

How is Haaland going to fit into a pep team? Easy, he'll create space for others by just being there, and bag plenty himself. Plus, he is rapid.

Can Grealish step up now he's had a season to settle in? Yup. He linked up very well with De bruyne several times, he's starting to know instinctively where he should be.

Why did we give Mahrez a contract extension? Because even at 34 / 35 he'll be near unstoppable cutting back inside.

We have more talent coming through. Rico Lewis, probably too early for him in pep's head but wow, what a talent.

Wilson Esbrand great talent but not quite there, positioning defensively needs work but overall was good enough against top team like Bayern, and has that pace that affords him a second chance at a misstep.

Alvarez is good enough for our first team squad.

What do we do if Brighton hold us to ransom over Cucurrlla? Easy, walk away and see if his stock tumbles.

Are we weaker now without sterling and Jesus? Lot of our play and chances seem to have come from wide areas, looks like we've done good business so far.

Is Bernardo unhappy and desperate to join Barca? I'm going with no. Give the lad a coffee in the Manchester rain and he'll be happy as Simon Stone on an all expenses paid tour of Oceania.

Only a friendly, of course, so shouldn’t read too much into it but preventing Bayern from having a single shot on target is pretty encouraging.
Ah, thanks for that as was just about to pretty much ask that question. I’ve just watched the 8 minute extended highlights on the OS and it appears we pretty much battered them and should have won by a few more. Considering they had pretty much a first choice 11 out then we look well set.

Happy days.

Yeah, it was a pretty comprehensive win.

IT'S Haaland. That's "H-A-A-L-A-N-D". One of the most famous names in the football world right now.

Incredible stat. We've managed that a number of times against top teams.

Went to bed last night (wimp) saying to myself it’s only a pre season friendly and if we lose it doesn’t mean anything. (Once saw us beat Mansfield 6-0 and we got relegated!)

But sod it we beat (an apparently strong) Bayern Munich 1-0.

Really chuffed.

Really love the 4 2 3 1 formation. We look defensively solid and having kdb in the 10 behind a genuine striker is a joy to watch. Very good performance
