Liam Delap | £16m bid from Southampton rejected

No.

Realistically the cup games are likely the bedding in minutes for Alvarez etc. Delap is far too good for PL2, the odd bit of game time isn't enough. I hope a loan move can be sorted, even for a couple years like we did with Callum Doyle.
I think the way he operate it will be a sale with buyback option. All these loans just haven’t proven to be of help based on the last 5 years or so

It is a difficult one because it clearly seems we are looking for a big fee upfront and we will want a decent buy back but Southmpton will probably want it at a big figure. They just bought Lavia for 14m and there is a 40m buy back. So if we sold them Delap for 25m+ they will want a 60/70m buy back and I don't think we would do that. I might be wrong.

I think we might need these funds for a surprise buy maybe… Joa Felix :)

I agree with that and also disagree. If Haaland picks up an injury we're down to Alvarez only if Delap is sold or goes out on loan. We don't know how Alvarez will adapt first season, and we've just sold jesus and Sterling so we won't have the goals they both scored now.

I really think Pep should keep Rory here and play him as and when he can to help him get established in the first team. Providing Delap can overcome his recent injury niggles I think he can become a good/great striker in the PL. I just hope he's given a chance for us, like i said.

The bottom line is that Delap needs minutes and City need to protect their asset - we seem to think he has significant potential. It’s a tough call send him to the South Coast (with a buy back) where he will get limited opportunities or loan him to Burnley where it’s possible he will play every week… we could then reassess the situation next June. Personally given we don’t need the money I’d go with the Burnley option. As an aside - this guy who’s left City for Soton shouldn’t be encouraged just to cherry pick our academy - other PL Chairman are going to be all over our academy staff looking to do the same.
Ralf is complaining about forward options so will play if he signs for Saints.

You mean should, not will. We've heard managers before promising game time for a loanee only to see them left frustrated sat on the bench. It has transpired to be that they've sat in their bench when he could have sat on ours. A player loaned out is if no use to our academy lads(or us) if they don't get enough minutes whilst on loan. If he signs for them permanently then he is their problem, not ours. Meanwhile, he's still here and will hopefully be given a chance and take it when played.

Thought Saints had bid 16m & its been rejected. Will be suprised if he goes there on loan.

All bids should always be rejected too he's still too young to consider selling because strikers are a very expensive commodity in football and even if he went on loan there now scoring 7-8 goals all season I'd still expect a good bit more than that price, he's young and under contract until 2026 no way should we entertain anything below £25m (even at this time just based on potential) as he's such a highly regarded English prospect it's a wait and see what happens kinda thing with Liam the gamble is worth it.

Just one very good loan in the championship, say a goal every 2 games with his physicality causing major issues he gets guaranteed £25m-£30m offers teams would take the gamble, plus an impressive campaign in the Prem causing havoc to seasoned pro's and a goal every 3 games would get £35m-£45m+... as strikers are what everyone wants it should strictly be loan offers we're considering it would be extremely foolish to accept any transfer offers for him right now.

Even if he doesn't make it here he should be seen as a potentially very expensive asset for us long-term just look at Tammy Abraham now, they're saying Roma wouldn't take less than £65m yet all that happened with him was a few loans away then scored a good few for Chelsea who thought they got good deal for him but they didn't and Roma are laughing, Liam Delap could be even more expensive than the fee Chelsea received like I've already said and that's whether or not he has a first team future here so loans only please.
Broja scored 6 goals in 32 PL appearances last season on loan at Saints and Chelsea wanted £30m for him. Delap is levels above that guy

Play Ake up front. He’s got an eye for a goal. Haaland nicked his goal last night!

In the recent U-19 tournament Delap was only third choice striker for England and was coming off the bench late on. Callum Doyle was first choice at fullback and had a much more impressive tournament.
Can’t make my mind up about Delap but don’t really see him as a future first choice at City. Loan and buyback clause is best option.

Delap hasn't scored 6 PL goals yet, and has played 32mins! Not sure how you think he's 'levels above' ?
Judging where they were at the same age. Liam shattered all previous records at PL2 level. A goal a game.
At the age Liam is now, Broja was off to the Eredivisie where he got 10 in 30. Respectable but not outstanding.
Give Liam 30 games in Holland and 33 games at Southampton over the next two seasons and I will bet any money he gets more than 16 in total

For what it's worth, I think Broja is pants.....however, your comparing what Delap might do, not what he's done. The more likely guess is that he won't play 30 games the next 2 seasons.....because he won't be fit enough.
