If it’s true that Brighton are less likely to sell because of the initial offer and the timing of the bid, I have to admit I thought that might be the case, imagining if it were us on the receiving end.

This is a real long shot but I wonder if Pep wants Cuc but Txiki doesn’t. I think that’s what was the case with Kane.

Reading the article not sure why Andy naylor is so bitter about this whole thing. Like a fanzine writer rather than a professional journalist.

Disappointing to read we are no nearer striking a deal however, that opening bid really was stupid
Ideally, this deal gets finalised asap, but we still have to the end of August to get a lb in. I hope we can get this transfer over the line, but if not we move on to the next target.

The opening bid could be interpreted as a signal to Brighton that we will not pay silly money and that while £50m is out of the question we may pay £40 m.

I honestly think it's just the clubs value him differently and Brighton are using the fact they bummed arsenal in the white deal that people should just give them what they want. Tagliafico has moved for €4 mil raum is/was available for around €35mil Brightons value of £50 mil is to high for an unproven player who has only one cap for Spain who are hardly spoil for choice at lb.

Does anyone have any idea if we are even negotiating for this fella?

Just wondering if we should look at this differently and look for a right back. We have Joao and Josh for left plus Nathan can play it, that just leaves Kyle whos 32 now and young Lewis for the right back spot. Could argue thats more pressing is we think Joao is better on the left.

Of course we are, we’d have leaked us moving on if it wasn’t the case.
I agree that we are still negotiating but I do also think this is a Kane-scenario, where City only have one target. Seems like the other targets are just ploys to pressure Brighton.

Agree. But the message was there 1-2 weeks ago. I guess we are weighing up our options now. We are not convinced Cucu would be good business at 50m. He is good, but is he really *that* good? Can we find a good squad player at 30m? Can we find a better player at 50m? And so on.

After having such a strong summer in terms of net spending, maybe we don't want to ruin the impression by overpaying for a FB who cost 15m a year ago and has only one international cap at nearly 24 y.o.

We have time, agents of good LBs are contacting Txiki every day, that's virtually certain. But it seems that we are not looking for a player who is going to displace Cancelo at LB with Walker still being quality at RB. Improving on Cancelo is very difficult. If, say, we think that Kabore is a great talent, then buying Cucu for 50m in order to displace Cancelo at LB will potentially block Kabore's future at RB till Walker's departure from the team. Many, many things, including JWE's future are being taken into account.

We had 3 primary targets this summer it seems. Haaland, Phillips and Cucurella? I imagine Pep will be asked why he wants these, what can they bring to the team etc and how vital each one is? If he pushes for it then I think txiki and khaldoon will do it for him to be honest as it’s a hugely important position in a pep team that can’t just be filled by anyone

Certainly an option.

I hope City haven’t done that in this case. The World knows we need a full back and it doesn’t put us in the strongest position.

It didn’t work on the Kane deal and I don’t think It’s the way to go. It could be argued that we needed a full back more than any position at the end of last season and we have left it to last again. We may have had to with so much else going on.

We don’t have a LB by signing one we will have 3 senior FBs one RB and one LB with Joao who is versatile
Ake can cover LB
Stones can cover RB
