I really hate the school holidays
Amen to that - this forum’s been invaded by children acting big and spouting off about how they know better than the team of professionals who run Manchester City, a club which is run so well that it’s used as a model for other clubs aspiring to be the best.
It’s getting like rawk on here.

Oh please don’t

You have probably just started yet another round of “it goes to the club….no it goes to Puma…….when blah blah signed for the scum they blah blah”

Can’t be arsed with it today

We bought Torres for 17m and sold him fot 55m 18 months and far fewer games played later. Dortmund bought Dembele for 15m and sold him for 110m 12 months later. There are lots of examples of players' fees vastly increasing, and being paid.
And how are the finances at the club that bought those players?

Absolutley. If we hadnt sold Zin and he'd played his whole career at City as a left back, you'd still get people saying "he's not a leftback".

He was - for us.

Many still think of teams as sums of 11 specialists. This is not even remotely close to how Pep understands football.

Our defensive record and our attacking record have been the best in Europe under Pep, even though we play without a 'specialist' LB and a 'specialist' striker (the last 2 seasons). Pep loves versatile players: any player from the keeper to the striker should be good on the ball, and every player from the striker to the keeper should help in defence.

To have the best defence is not to have the best (on paper) specialists defenders, and to have the best attack is not to have the best (on paper) specialist strikers, but to be the best as a team in defence and the best as a team in attack. Otherwise, Liverpool would have been champions in 4 of the last 5 seasons, they have the best specialists here, there and everywhere :) But finish below City!

A Brighton fan threw a little bomb in with an ‘innocent’ question about Grealish value and got the reaction he wanted.

Nothing says we’re moving on like a bid on another player so if we are briefing the press, I’d expect phase two in next day or so linking us strongly with another lb. Bloom will then have a decision to make which makes his poker career look like child play. It’s not just the player’s future resting on it, it’s the culture of Brighton being a club that develops and sells. If they’re not that, what are they and who will they attract.

no we did not overpay however you judge it, Jack is worth 100 mil just in a financial marketing sense in addition to what he gives on the pitch. cucurella is worth 0 off the pitch.
...and there it is...all about the ! Good job most of the city fans appreciate him for his football ability unlike yourself. I can see Pep now...please can we sign Jack, think of the money he will bring to the club boss! PRICELESS

Someone else stared that Grealish was worth 100m in marketing to the club, I just questioned how they arrived at that figure.
It’s irrelevant.

£100m was the price we had to pay to get Grealish. This is the power of a release clause. Worth didn’t come into it.

Cucurella doesn’t have a release clause, so we offer what we think he is worth.

If it's true what has been mentioned by the media (a big if) then I can see City and Brighton meeting somewhere down the middle with the fee imo.

Grealish's actual worth will be decided over the course of his City career. Even at 100m he may well be a great signing. Too early to tell now.

Walker and Cancelo were very expensive, but we are happy to have them now. The same may well happen with Grealish. Those arguing Grealish wasn't worth 100m pretend to know the future. Which is a bit foolish anyway. His entire career at City will decide his worth to the club, not one or two seasons.

Really? The likes of Messi Ronaldo Pogba etc, values aside, sure are worth a lot in markting, with sponsors lining up to be associated with. And while most of that hoes to them, there is an association with that the club benefits from. Grealish? What's he the face of, I genuinely don't know.

I think he is worth more as a footballer than as a marketing icon, and I would guess the club paid what they did for him predominantly for his footballing potential impact, rather than a marketing one.

Totally happy for you to explain it to me though, as it is not something I know much about.
