Probably wishful thinking, but I wonder how a refusal from the player to negotiate personal terms with Chelsea would affect the situation.

OK, wouldn't bring them down, but could force them to be more realistic in their nego tactics.

Fair play to Chelsea if they are willing to pay that for Cucurella but its not a centre back which is more of a priority.

Disappointed by this. I really thought he was going to be the solution to our LB 'problem'. A well rounded, defensively solid fullback.

I know the club has been much more stern in their stance of transfers, but if there was one to push the boat out on and slightly overpay, this would have been the one, considering Zinny has now left and we have two senior fullbacks.

I'll trust the process though and assume we have a plan B lined up, but if we don't end up signing anyone after letting Zinny go that will be criminal and a baffling end to what could have been an excellent transfer window.

do Chelsea even have a DOF right now or is their American owner just winging it as he goes?

Yeah could work out in a way where everyone 'saves face' considering the media mess this has caused.

Chelsea are not nearly as an attractive destination as Man City but I think the transfer request means he's gotta commit to going somewhere and I guess there are worse places to end up ambition wise.

Also my two cents on Zinchenko, people saying he should've stayed until a signing was brought in but cmon man, its an attacking midfielder playing at LB who was so average that Cancelo had to move sides in order to stop Zinch playing so often. City did well to get £32m imo, only need to spend a bit over that to get an actual good LB!

Feels lazy to call Zinchenko average. Cancelo is one of the best attacking full backs in the world and in a team like ours who mostly have the ball, it makes sense to have him in there. It’s not like Michael Ball was starting ahead of him!

Zinchenko is far from average and is one of the best technical players I’ve ever seen live and will prove to be a bargain at £32m IMO.

Cucurella can play LCB which is what they need

The myths and misconceptions about cucurella are wild...he wasnt even the starting left back at getafe as the coach didnt trust his defense and at brighton he played mainly as a wingback. He is an unproven left back in a back four, these are facts

considering the alternatives for a potential world class left back are way fewer than other players/positions we've walked away from in the past, this seems like a colossal blunder.

Calm down, there's one month before windows close. Still plenty of time to search alternative.

Chelsea will probably get it done in a day or so. Sounds to be going fast. Massive waste of time on Citys behalf

Players wants out and Chelsea will give Brighton what they want. I reckon it’ll be done by tomorrow at the latest.

Lower fee but including a player. Didn’t we have a player somewhere to sweeten the deal?! Haha
