I know you were. I just find it odd that people wish that someone would die because they aren’t excited enough when your team scores a goal.

True. You never hear a negative word or read an unfavourable comment about the rags or the dippers. Ever.
You pick up any newspaper and go to the sports section, there will be plenty of articles about how wonderful Klopp has done on a shoestring budget, how exemplary the followers of the cult are, what wonderful, exciting football they play, etc. And the same with the rags: the club is in total disarray, chaos behind the scenes, players not wanting to be there and walking out on the team, crippled by an absolute monster of a debt while the stadium is crumbling around their shoulders. And yet the media in this country would have you believe that all is well at the swamp. The roses are in bloom, the sun is always shining, everybody is happy - basically, Disneyland has relocated to Trafford Park.

It would make such a refreshing change if -just for once- these 'journalists' stopped trying to tell us all that black is white and vice-versa.

He was talking about the state of the English game, which was a mess at the time - huge fences, being frogmarched to and from grounds, and the grounds themselves being dilapidated all resulting in crowds and interest in the game dwindling.

Imagine asking someone at the time "why do you not go to football?"
And they answered "lots of people died at Hillsborough and there are other hooligan related issues as well".

Seems as good an answer as any - and the 2 parts of the sentence are connected by the IMPACT and not by the similarity

Unless of course you are a professional victim.
The vagaries of the English language mean you can create things that aren't meant easily.
