Newcastle United (A) | Post Match thread

Blatant red and no idea why it was overturned. Poor overall. Why complain for 5 subs and not use any? We are putting ourselves at a serious disadvantage when other clubs are using their subs to keep their players fresh and we aren’t.

Don't see how the red card was rescinded.
Not a clear and obvious error as Tripper was airborne and it was a too footed challenge.
It was the right result as he clearly slowed down and tried to pull out doing little damage - but he was airborne and it was two footed so it wasn't an obvious error.
Two footed?

The red card was in no way a clear and obvious error so the VAR had no justification for asking the ref to go to the screen. Once he’s been told to look we all know he is under pressure from convention and the home crowd to overturn.
VAR is a joke full stop..so open to manipulatiin. Gauranteed if it was one of ours..be off in no time. But Sky could do with us dropping points as they cant have clear leaders.

You've literally posted a picture where his studs are pointing down FFS.

It's high, yes, but it's not studs up.
That photo also makes it look like tripper is coming in side on when he wasn't. He was more behind and kicking upwards so wasn't going to go sideways into his other knee.

If the ref was right why the hell did VAR talk to him to look at the screen. VAR was saying to him ' you have got it wrong ' . VAR put the ref under unfair pressure

PS I thought it was a red

VAR telling a ref to “take a look” basically means the nation is watching and you fucked up, now do the right thing! Even when VAR is wrong. The on field ref basically doesnt have a choice.

Has HInchcliffe got a beef with City or something?
He never has a good word to say about us, any borderline ref decisions he always takes the opposition side.
2 years ago he approved of Bernardos racism ban.
The guy is an absolute fucking idiot and the club should ban him from the stadium.

It’s not about the studs. It’s about it being a knee high lunge at a player who is in full flow. If that isn’t a red card I dont know what is.

i was watching the referee looking at the monitor and it actually looked worse in slow mo. He was clearly instructed to change his decision. Every time the ref goes to the monitor the decision is reversed. Who is really making the decisions?

Whether his studies are up or down is really irrelevant. Lots of other things have to be taken into consideration. It was a tackle out of control, Both feet up off the ground, The boot was high into the knee, No intention of playing the ball...

You don't need to stick your studs into an opponents knee to do damage. KDB could have easily had his cruciate done with a tackle like that.

Shocking tackle. Blatant red

Newcastle played as well as they're going to all season. We did well in the end to come back for the point and still looked like the only team that was going on to win it if anyone did.

Was a little surprised when the ref pulled out the red card card but was even more so when it was rescinded by VAR. Think the VAR ref must have been listening to the Sky commentators to make his decision before informing the on-field one to change it to yellow. The sooner those conversations are made public the better (not that that's ever going to happen).

I know Pep doesn't like to make late changes to upset the rhythm when the team is dominating but a couple of ours looked out on their feet with 10mins to go.

It’s also about force. There was none.
