The Boxing thread

There's some footage that's been released on the SkySports website, it doesn't really help much to clear why he went nuts. But there is a bit right at the end where the mic picked up a hug between the two fighters. Usyk says "you are very strong" and is trying to reassure a fighter who he can clearly see has lost it a bit, and AJ retorts "i don't care about being strong, its about skill". He is basically admitting to himself that he didn't have the skill, he says he had character and i think he's trying to comfort himself that he at least showed some character against a clearly superior fighter. Still no idea why he went mental about the two belts, i guess they weren't on the line until Fury gave them up recently? He throws them out the ring and then gets mad at Usyk's corner for clearly not being happy with that, and to be fair his team saved him further embarrassment there.

If that's true about skills comment, it just shows me my thoughts on his style pan out. He was with his former trainer way too long and he wasn't advancing, even though his has the tools to be what he wants to be.

He can still unlock them.

Just watched more footage of Joshua chucking the belts and what a disgrace it was . Anyone else would be getting hammered for being so disrespectful but not Joshua who is only being hunan . All the years of being the role model destroyed in 2 minutes

Maybe he never wanted to be saddled with being "a role model"? It's a lot of pressure to act nice all the time.

Meaning what?
He believed that all he had to do was adjust and he would beat usyk because how could a cruiserweight cone up and beat him . Also everyone who surrounded him has always told him how great he is infact even on Saturday his trainer was telling him he was winning every round when clearly he wasn’t I mean how did he get a split decision aswell because if it would have been in London Joshua would be holding the belts now . And then we can look at him packing stadium’s out because even if he boxed a fucking sheep we would get 90000. Joshua is a good fighter but that is it .

And you attribute your last post of Joshua 'believing his own hype' to this view??

There are two ways a trainer or an entourage gets through to an athlete, in this case a boxer; you hype them up, get into their head to believe in themselves, no matter if they're just behind in quality or you tell them the truth, that they're falling short and to find a way to improve.

You're suppose to inflate your fighter. Anything else is just... dumb...

End of the day you have your view and I have mine . I also belive usyk beats fury but I’m probably in the minority with that one .

Fury can point score, cut a ring down and deal with a southpaw better than AJ

Concentration did AJ enough for him to need a wwf mic moment.

Average ring craft, but he has good power.

Everybody is entitled to an opinion mate, especially paying customers.

Where I do have a problem, is where entitled Brits build up their athletes and performers then break them down again. Everyone will suddenly care again when AJ does a Frank Bruno. He is a human being who has tried his very best and come up short on the world stage a few times.

Not many people in the world could turn up and put their body through what elite performers do every day, nor make the sacrifices they make. AJ has given paying customers in the arenas and pubs some of the best nights of their lives, and won gold at the Olympics for his country. People should have more respect for him as a human being, anybody who's got into a ring at any level knows it's a lot harder than just 'move your head' or 'throw more combos'.

The lad has clearly held the weight of the world on his shoulders for 10 years and it's all got a bit too much. Poisonous opinions cause mental health problems, rich and famous or not. We have an endemic issue in this country amongst young men, and Joe public's behaviour towards other young men is at the root of the problem.

I agree but apart from the nobs on Twitter and the casual fan who will just recite what he’s read on Twitter most just give their opinion from a boxing point of view

For me AJ isn’t in the top 20 heavyweights from history, he’s a big strong athletic guy with a big punch but unfortunately I feel he’s been really gun shy since Ruiz 1
Mentally I think he’s been struggling for a while now and would personally like to see him retire, get his head level and just enjoy his life
A bad KO to Wilder ( which is what I think will happen ) will seriously affect him and he could really struggle with life after that

He has though as lads like you say given us some great nights, me a my mates always have a poker night at someone’s house for the big fights and I’ll always remember the room shaking as we were all jumping up and down when he fought Vlad

Keep him away from the media and let him have a good chill out

Surprised Joshua didn't end up biting Usyk seeing as he was trying to emulate Mike Tyson all evening

Hats off to all Blues that participate or are looking into participating within any of the many arts.
