The very nature of a knockout competition. I always say that you might only need to play well in one of the games and it needn't be the final. There isn't the slightest comparison between winning a league, game or two every week for eight months in a league where basically anyone can, with our refs and VAR, beat any other team, and winning a group where two of the teams might just be making up the numbers and then three more games against better equipped sides.
