It's not because every indication is that this is not what the Queen herself would have wanted.

It's a very poor decision.

Thousands of people would have been able to show their respect in a way they probably would not otherwise have been able to.

The practicalities are also absurd calling games off at this late stage and then having to rearrange them.
Completely agree.

Fucking Ridiculous. Would have been a better tribute to her playing the game with the national anthem before hand. Bet they don't stop people working out of respect.
Apart from at Liverpool games where they would have still booed the national anthem.

They've even had to turn off comments on the Instagram post about the Queens passing.

Any idea what happens with the Dortmund game and next weekend's matches? Assuming the Queen's funeral is on Monday 19th, will we see cancellations next weekend too? I'm thinking that those games will go ahead and this decision is because this weekend's matches are only a couple of days after she died and the football authorities want to be seen to be "doing the right thing"

Edit: Looks like next weekend's are off too ffs!

Ridiculous.... Has everyone not gone in work today as a mark of respect? Royal Mail staff have gone IN work when they should be on strike as a mark of respect!

I'm lucky in that it only affects going to a rearranged game, but others will have travel and hotel expenses, flights too I imagine with no means of getting refunds.

What happens if you sold your tickets on the Exchange? Does this mean you can't get into the rearranged fixture?

This weekend should have gone ahead, are they also going to cancel next weekend as it will still be in the period of mourning?

Oh and if it's so important to the country why are we not getting a bank holiday to mourn properly?

They're damned if they do and damned if they don't really.

Sadly in this country we have one load of nutters who seem to be actively gleeful that a 96 year old woman has died and calling for street parties and a socialist revolution, and another load of nutters who seem intent on covering every surface with flags and insisting on everyone dressing in black and mourning for the next month..

They literally wouldn't have been dammned if they went ahead though.

The offical guidance said they could and the number of people who think everyone should sit in solemn contemplation for 90 minutes on Saturday instead of watching or going to football is likely countable on 2 hands.
