Hi bud, just catching up with the thread. Did you happen to visit The Ship to see the damage and if so is there any prospect of reopening. We managed to get ooked in at the Unicorn mid October. Looking forward to it.Final Severn update. Had 2 barbel on Wednesday afternoon but I had to quit early due to sunburn, lack of liquid and desire for chippy tea and beer before the City match. Up early again on Thursday for just an hour’s lure fishing before a concerted last day blast at the Barbel. We had more pike fun: a big one was following and nudging his lure so I came down from the next swim, chucked my wobble bait out and hooked it first cast. As we pissed ourselves laughing it tailwalked and threw the hook.
That afternoon my mate went home so I settled down for a last barbel session and had six of them. So I ended one of my best ever fishing holidays with 22 barbel (lots of 8s and 9s but none over 10lb), 10+ pike to 13lb, lots of chub and perch and half a big eel. And possibly the only salmon I will ever hook in my life, lost, forever.
Yes I did, in fact my cottage was right next to it. Nowhere near ready and very little work being done on it. I emailed them about 4 week ago as they still have £180 of mine. They said "about 3 weeks". When I was there last week I heard someone say "6 weeks" to a passer by. It will definitely be some time anyway.Hi bud, just catching up with the thread. Thanks for the info. Sounds like you had a great week.Yes I did, in fact my cottage was right next to it. Nowhere near ready and very little work being done on it. It was brilliant. I can give you some pointers on the fishing if you want. I found some good areas. Thanks for the info. Sounds like you had a great week.
Will take any help and advice available. It'll probably be a completely different river by the time we get there in 5 weeks. We'll probably be fishing where you parked your car. LOL.We've got our Birmingham cards so plenty of ares to choose from. Will get back to you nearer the time.It was brilliant. I can give you some pointers on the fishing if you want. Yeah, I fished the BAA stretch immediately below the pub. Loads to go at there. It’s excellent fishing and you could catch it bang on at that time of year. Will take any help and advice available. Thanks for that. Didn't know about the new series. Never fished in my life but love the show. You probably all know but Whitehouse and Mortimer are back on Friday evenings with a new series. I think Bob must be the worlds worst angler. Despite this being series 5 or so, every episode sees him approach the challenge like someone who has never seen a rod in his life.
He is bloody funny at times though. First time I have heard the words ‘Paul, can you put a sausage and some Bovril on my tummy please’ on mainstream Tv.
I shall do the Scottish rain dance just for you :-)I coarse fished the Wye for a few hours with an old mate this week.
Newfangled cage feeders, rubber ledger stop thingies, meat choppers and funny diameter line. Its like the space age!
Anyways, no barbel caught, but plenty of chub.
Off to the Annan in a week for some proper fluff chucking.
If one of you guys can arrange some rain I would appreciate it :)

Seriously disallusioned. Back on the nene at first light with my mate for the first time since June (3 pretty much blank sessions then). 2 perch for me, not a sign of a bream (not even any rolling), but by far worst of all 7 mitten crabs between us. I've fished the nene for just about 40 years and never had a crab before. Sadly I don't think I will ever be going back.
It's horrific NN. Quoted your recent experiences in Ireland to my mate this morning. Not sure if any of it is reversable either!!We blanked on the Severn yesterday. Conditions are shit at the moment aggravating the catastrophic neglect of our rivers.

It's otters round here. Local media bigging them up like mad. So cute to see so many in local rivers and backwaters!! As for the mitten crabs the whole river floor must have been covered with them! Like you say nothing will get done about them. It's reversible as are the sea stocks but no fucker is interested as long as they can protect cormorants and reintroduce cute beavers and do features on Spring watch on "Sidney the stickleback".
