Echoing what FogBlue said previously. The USA system of governance is robust for the most part - indeed, the system withstood Trump's aggressive efforts to overturn the results of the 2020 election. The electoral college is a weak point though - creating numerous unnecessary vulnerabilities for exploit. A simple, nationwide majority vote to decide the presidency would be much better.

A much larger problem than the intrinsic robustness of the system, is that governance in the USA does not reflect majority opinion on numerous issues.
I have mixed feelings about the EC which I’ve talked about before but at the moment the EC is specifically what is worrying the GOP. As I’ve written before, migration patterns (which have accelerated dramatically post COVID) have seen well-off, educated, likely-to-vote liberals from CA and the northeast flood former rock solid red states and make many bluer: AZ, TX, GA, NV and NC especially. FL too but it’s likely to always be purple. A permanent blue shift in these states (preceded by CA, OR, WA, CO and VA) spells doom for any hope of a Republican presidency under the EC. Hence why the GOP is trying so hard to do whatever it can to ensure power via other means (gerrymandering, electoral fraud accusations, lunatic rhetoric, etc).

Biden’s exceeded my expectations and really come on strong in 2022. I don’t agree with all that he champions, and his age worries me, but he was handed a difficult hand and has navigated it very well, plus accomplished a lot of good.

Oo, nice! I've not been on for a couple of days! But someone tagged me!

Nah, I'm actually glad he's "righting the wrongs" of many things of which he was directly involved with.

If your Pops beat you and shaped/ ruined the formative years of your life, I guess you'd be 'grateful' he stopped the punishment in the latter stage of your life because the suffering had stopped.

"Pardoning marijuana possession"?

He was the front runner who made this plan where people were under a 3 strike rule and went to jail for life. I, also, note there's no amendment for crack/ cocaine jailing imbalance that affects Black people against White in your summary.

"Up to $20,000 student loans paid back for 8 million people"

Haven't you heard that the qualification has now changed AGAIN! "Up to" is no guarantee of the '$20k'. That's a really small section, but '$20k' has a really nice ring to it.

"Infrastructure bill (bipartisan) - $1 Trillion of infrastructure funding"

I think most of us know how much of this was whittled down to a quarter of what's needed. Not sure how much of this is going to fix the lead in water crisis that's started to pop up all over the place as well as fix the crumbling infrastructure. But, yeah, 'whoop!'...

"Veterans burn pit (bipartisan) - massively expanded healthcare and disability benefits for veterans"

Ah, we all know how much Biden went to bat for this bill, where he thought his own son was a victim of burn pits. I really hope we look back at the fight Jon Stewart Pres Biden fought all those years, especially when congress tried to make it tokenised, so he fought back and shamed them for it. Go Joe, never taking the credit he deserves...

I don't have the time to pick apart some of the rest and, maybe I'll return over the weekend, but I'm sure you'll have something to say about what my response is...

Oh come on! Republicans. Democrats. They're all the same, LOL.

He's a bland, uncharismatic leader, but he's leading the country extremely well. The only major blemish on his record is that the withdrawal from Afghanistan (which I agree with) got well out of hand.

….largely due to the almost impossible position left to him by his predecessor that almost guaranteed a messy departure.

Unfortunately the US military had gotten too comfortable in the way it conducts it operations overseas in terms of infrastructure and set up. Biden was right to do what he did. It needed to be done quickly, otherwise it would have just dragged on. It also gave him chance to gauge his generals and the adaptability of the military which had become somewhat over confident and stale.

The Afghan situation was a mess that he inherited. Yes it got worse but its hardly something he was responsible for. There were only bad options and the least bad option was to just get out fast once the Taliban started taking ground. Makes you wonder what Trump would have done if he had one the second term. Clearly he has no interest in any foreign conflicts but if bullets were flying and given the arseholes advising him who knows what he would have done.

Some similarities with Vietnam were the French pulled out and the US then went in, nearly came out several times but every time there was a flare up they had to go back in. Vietnam war went on for 20 years if you count the French as well. Ended much the same way.

What are people thoughts on Beto O'Rourke ? Going for Governor of Texas but does anyone think he's a potential candidate for President in future ?

Beto definitely has the credentials. He's well informed, articulate and calm under pressure. Whether or not he can attract enough support to run for POTUS is another matter.

I like him. He does a great job of running campaigns in deep Red states. The GOP dont have much on him wich suggests he could be a very effective POTUS candidiate. One issue is that he runs in red states and loses therefore his CV doesnt look great. If he were to pull of a win in Texas then he would be a nailed on POUTS front runner. But cant see it.

Fucking Beto O'Rourke?? LOL!

He and Kamala Harris are two peas-in-a-pod-virtue-signalling-standing-on-cars-and-tables-hyena-laughing-idiot type 'politicians'! Fucking hell, you people are scraping the barrel!!

Anyway, here's what one of your intellectual heroes has to say on US gaslighting politics...

After he did the kool aid dance on Big Pharma 2 years ago, it looks like he's back to thinking straight!
