Yep. This is the explanation of the handball law given on the BBC’s website this morning when discussing some of this weekend’s decisions:

For accidental handball in the build-up to a goal:

  • If one player accidentally handles the ball and a team-mate scores, the goal is given;
  • However, if a player accidentally handles the ball themselves and goes on to score, the goal will not stand.
Is it different in Europe

No, it isn’t. The rule says if a player intentionally handballs in the build up (which Mahrez didn’t) or if the scoring player handballs (intentional or not), which Rodri didn’t.

They are just making it up as they go now.

No mate.. the rule changed recently (before last season I believe?!?).
Got rid of the ‘intentional’ part and changed it to any handball contact in the build up to a goal would be chalked off.

Ederson...fucks up first touch and almost scores an OG, then pings another pass straight to Copenhagen player and they nearly score....waken up laddie

I thought the goal was fine due to the rule change in the Premier League.

Had no idea they were still using that shit rule in the Champions League.
