How do we resolve the Brexit mess?

Keep believing that mate - all those pesky experts with their reports, facts and figures that show the impact Brexit has had and continues to have on the UK economy....what do they know.....

I've said I'm neither for or against it, but as usual anybody who isn't totally with one side gets mocked by the other. The whole world is in a shit state at the moment and that includes Europe, not just Britain. Everything came to a halt for two years and as a result ruined everyone's economy. We'll see how it pans out, but as I said in an earlier post you don't leave something you've been in for fifty years without some fallout.

I am getting it. It's not just us, the rest of Europe are suffering the same. Predominantly it's down to fuel prices as everything is more expensive to make and deliver. I bought a loaf of bread in Aldi yesterday. A few months ago it was 45p. Yesterday I paid 79p. No economic growth will happen anywhere until this is sorted out. My fuel bills have doubled in price and every food item I buy has increased and is continuing to do so on a weekly basis.
A quick google on comparisons of economic growth will put you right on that.
We are 2nd bottom of the growth league, just a little better than sanction hit Russia.
Uniquely in the world, we applied sanctions to ourselves. Honestly mate, I’m sure you are correct in price rises in the canaries but saying we are all the same is just plain wrong.

Was listening to Five Live the other day and a political commentator was..errr…commenting on the number of PMs since 2016 saying he couldn’t quite attribute it to anything, but ‘something was happening’.

How blind do you have to be to not link it directly to the vote to leave the EU?

From 1979 to 2016 we had five PMs and we’ll most likely have the same number in six fucking years.

What else can it be down to? We have needlessly precipitated utter chaos upon ourselves.

It‘s a fucking mystery to these people. It’s a mystery trapped in a puzzle and wrapped in an enigma. Totally unfathomable. If only there was a giant fucking clue emblazoned in neon lights to help guide them to the answer.

Nobody’s mocking anyone from what I can see but there might be good a reason why most people are on one side of the argument.

Well I've had a "You keep believing that" comment when I'm not believing anything, just pointing out its not just Britain suffering economically at the moment.

At least in an attempt at staying involved, we’ve stopped the previous passport producing company, based in Gateshead (oh the irony), from producing our blue (or is it black) passports and they’re now produced by a Franco-Dutch company in Poland using Italian software to print Spanish ink on to Finnish paper, thanks to a tender that beat the Gateshead company which was then facing bankruptcy (they then got awarded a contract to do with polymers and £ notes, so were not closed down). Another glowing example of taking back control…….

Yeah but comparing a tiny island in the middle of the Atlantic Ocean which survives mainly on tourism and imports the vast majority of its day to day items with the UK is a bit of a misnomer.

The whole of Europe and every advanced economy in the world is suffering economically. It’s just that the statistics clearly show that we’re doing worse than everyone else with the exception of Russia for some reason!

I think Brexit was just another example of tribalism where there is not the slightest point where any of the two sides 'touch'. There is no compromise, no attempt to understand where the other side is, no discussion as to where common ground could be met, and we constantly and consistently get stalemate, and so we start again.

I hear that Boris is having a summit with Rishi. I'd love to be bugging that conversation:

Boris: Yer fucked me over, yer bloated billionaire.
Rishi: Yes, but I did it for Liz. We needed a neo-Thatcher and I thought Liz was the one.
Boris: See this dagger before me . . . . . . . . !

It's based on my personal experience of a European country as it's governed by Spain. All the prices have risen there and they too are experiencing shortages. The rest of Europe are also experiencing similar problems to ourselves so we can't JUST blame Brexit for all our problems. Whether we improve or deteriorate further in comparison to the rest of Europe and the world only time will tell.

But the point you’re not accepting is, certainly as far as Tenerife goes, many of those shortages and price rises are a direct result of Brexit.
I know you’re a regular visitor to the island but there’s no justifiable comparison to be made between Tenerife and the UK. I lived there for over 10 years, I have property there still and get over a fair bit, in fact I’ll be there next week. There have always been sharper rises in places like The Canaries/Balearic islands compared to the mainland.

I used to have a lot if dealings with that company. It was run by nice people. Sad if it’s struggling.

Agreed. On a narrow vote, and one where two countries of our Union voted the other way, there was zero attempt by Brexiteers to compromise or fashion a deal with the EU that both sides of the Brexit debate could accept.

Brexiteers couldn’t even accept schoolkids participating in the ERASMUS scheme. There had to be a total schism with Europe, as only this would ‘represent the will of the people’.

Meanwhile, we are about to welcome our fifth PM and wondering if he or she will have a longer shelf life than produce.

Since Boris went the EU don’t even have a UK government to negotiate with.
The DUP won’t go into assembly in the North until negotiations are held over their ‘concerns’.
Consequently you are going to have an election in the North before Christmas that will change nothing. The assembly still will not get up and running, because the UK government is not functioning.

How the hell can the rest of the world do business with your government. It’s ridiculous.

DUP are really fucked this week, assembly by Friday or be ruled from London and Dublin. Haha a Sinn Fein leader or Dublin chipping in every now and then, what a choice although there are other rather less unsavoury options.

Those calls would have been made either way

Sadly there was just a giant fucking Union Jack neuron, hot-wired to their fucking brain stems
