I’m not watching ITV, but I do follow the news here and the Republic is in great danger. We are a wrong word from a shooting at either the polls or a ballot collection spot.

In AZ, we have ARMED MEN IN CAMO hanging out at maildrop ballot boxes, in full view, attempting to scare people into NOT voting…and there are multiple reports of people being scared away…Democrats, of course! All of this at the URGING of a local Republican office holder!!!

Robocalls have also been used telling people that the IRS and other law enforcement will be using their mail in ballots to search IRS records for unpaid taxes, audits, etc, and any warrants will be served using the mailing address on their ballot. The people who have been doing the robocalls have been fined $5M and convicted of fraud, but the effect remains!

We are a small step from who knows where, and who knows how we will come back from there. Jan 6 was a wake up call to America, but too many people seem to have LIKED what they saw, instead of being horrified by it.

So called “news” outlets are nothing but propaganda mills, and I fear for where it all ends.

Jan 6, 2021 may be a day that historians look back upon as the day America changed irreparably.
I kind of feel that you’re a lost cause and there will be an uprising of a sort soon.

There are too many knee jerk mad people for there not to be.

In some nonsensical, 10th page, small item corner type news, 30 lawmakers ask a teeny tiny irrelevant question...

If you look veeery carefully, you'll see the obscured head of AOC in the background.

Well, gee, I guess the pressure for solution finding peace talks has an effect after all!

Hoping that wasn’t a personal “you’re,” I’m afraid you’re correct.

Sadly, it feels like Xi and Huning are right, that America is a waning superpower that has seen its best days for the 21st century, which China having the ability to exert increasing influence on the world, as the USA did in the 20th century.

I hope against hope it’s not the case, but the general education level, plus the level of anti-government propaganda, plus the MAGA cult (which is, ironically, going to result in reducing any possibility of MAGA!) do not add up to a result one looks forward to seeing. The only question then becomes, what will they do to try to reassert America’s supposed “greatness”?!

Not so much…

Well, Gordon Gecko said America was a “third-rate power” in “Wall Street” in 1987. You say shit like that when you’re on a stage and have something to sell. Doesn’t make it any more true then than now. California on its own will be the world’s fourth largest economy as measured by GDP this year, surpassing Germany. Meantime China’s banks have the same problems Japan’s did in 1990 — only about 30 times worse — problems from which Japan has never recovered. And that’s without COVID zero.

You need to bring your focus a tad closer to home, lest you look over, or is it overlook, the train coming down the track…possibly arriving in the next few weeks!

America is built in confidence in its system, its money, and its economic power being sufficient to allow it to see its way through crises. We are teetering on the brink on at least a couple of those, and they go hand in hand.

As I said earlier, I fear for the near future of America…which includes significant concern for my young adult kids to make a better life for themselves than my own…and it’s ability to see its way clear to the distant future.

I think we face challenges the Constitution never envisaged, and the response to those challenges will reverberate to the very feet of liberty in this country. When the crowded theatre is a very large swath of the country’s 330,000,000 population, shouting “Fire!” is NOT an exercise in the freedoms found in the First Amendment!

I’ve said before — it’s all built on trust. The noise level is elevated because the GOP knows that red states are inevitably going blue. And they haven’t even gone blue yet — but they will. I’ve only written this about a dozen times. In-migration patterns are fundamental. Demographics are fundamental. Millennial/ Gen Z social perspectives are antithetical to what’s left of conservative dogma. They are attempting to lock in power via gerrymandering and the court and now via Sec of State and midlevel election oversight positions because it’s ALL they have. It’s their ONLY way. You see it as teetering on the brink — I see it as the last and inevitable acts of desperate people. If they couldn’t bring it about with control of both houses and the Presidency, I don’t think they can without it.

You said a mouthful there.
I’m glad we agree.

One issue that has surprised some people is that the largest growth demographic in the USA, Hispanics, are not a left wing lock vote, as previously believed.

Regardless, so far, we have seen what the desperate acts of ONE MAN wrought on the most hallowed institution in America. How far might they go next time, and who will be the target(s)?

As you rightly state…desperate times mean desperate measures. Isn’t that what 1/6 was all about?!

Oh, I agree with you.

An ask that asked for nothing with their own continued support of funding a war where they'd have liked talks to begin, was always going to implode.

"The Squad" are a terrible hodgepodge of laudable intentions in name only whilst it supports positions that counter the very nature of why they were voted into office by their constituents.

The 'timing', hot on the heels of AOC's public mauling, was never going to make a difference when straddling two positions on the eve of midterms.

The fact that Jayapal had the nerve to blame her staff for the organising of an event that she signed off on and, physically, was on hand to front and read the statement, just shows the awful state of political discourse; being afraid to challenge the status quo.

What a sad and sorry state of affairs the US Progressives have become since being co-opted by the centre right Dem party.

A lot of the ITV programme was covering the situation in Arizona and backed up everything you said. If the MAGA Republicans get control of congress I can't see a good ending. They already have control of SCOTUS so I can easily see rule changes coming in that will make the real result of the next Presidential election irrelevant because individual states will be able to override the will of the people and there will be MAGA nuts in position in enough states to do it by then.

Ideally Dems control both houses this time in 2 weeks and Mango Mussolini is then nicked.

I doubt the House will be blue but I think the Sentate will be.
Dems only marginally favoured now to win the Senate. And listening to the Fetterman/Oz debate last night, you can’t help but think that those polls are going to tighten even further.

Dems now a long shot for the House.

It really doesn’t look good at the moment. But if they do manage to hold the senate, that would be some achievement all told.

Fucking hell!

It's amazing how much the human mind has an ability to deceive itself.

Like wow! A clinical case of how someone who is born with the ability to reason is just going off with how being stupid is so much better.

Like I say guys.. never underestimate the stupid part of the population!

Some here might just chuckle oh the views of a libtard.. haha he's gonna get pwned..

Funny thing is I wouldn't mind voting GOP if they actually gave me anything on the issues that matter to me - healthcare, cost of meds, climate change, national security.

Like everywhere their response is to do the opposite of what's good for America so I'm actually forced to vote democrat this cycle but it sure would be nice to have good and better options!

Feels like a pipedream!

Perfectly sums up my views. Great debate from you and @ChicagoBlue!

In my opinion if the USA survived through desegregation which was just as chaotic to what we have now then USA will get through this intact. Desegregation was just as messy as what we see now in my opinion. A lot of dead and currently old but living white Americans fought tooth and nail to stop it(and still are fighting, look up CRT). But the writing was/is on the wall.

At the moment many Americans are seeing they are getting a raw deal. Rich are getting richer and the middle to poor are not seeing opportunities of advancement especially the younger generation who are puzzled with fear how they can afford to live their life their parents and grandparents did. These questions usually circle around healthcare, education, childcare, and housing.

Right now no one wants to use the “S” word in American politics but some type of non neo-liberal intervention will need to take place or we are going to be in the same situation as the Obamacare where the profit seekers still get to run away like bandits.

It’s sad the states that take the brunt of the negative affects are red states, especially the African American who take a disproportionate amount of the shocks as shown by COVID. But it’s great to still see voter turnout ever increasing even as the GOP gerrymander those states. However, in my opinion all they are doing is building a dam to block an ocean of water which in the long term is impossible.

The so-called Progressive Caucus have not been co-opted, they have learned the political reality that if they don’t get with the Program, there is no Program!

There is no magic wand in politics that you wave as a small minority of the majority party that gets you your way…unless your default position is the way of the OPPOSITION!!

Progressives have shot themselves in the foot repeatedly. They’ve tried to outgun themselves repeatedly. They think THEIR ideology WINS, but have been shown REPEATEDLY that they are at least a decade too soon!

If Progressives had their way, Donald Trump would be President now and their “agenda” would be a footnote in history. As it stands, they are still given oxygen and, while on life support, still have some level of viability with the extremes of the Party.

If they want to help move the country forward, they have to understand basic political realities, only bite off what they can chew, and then play nice with the adults.

Sadly, like many of their generation, they want what they want NOW, without the heavy lifting or playing the long game, and they’re willing to “scream and scream and scream until I’m sick!”

Much good may it do them.

The only thing I can say that you didn’t is that Pittsburg is a medium sized, rust belt city in the far west of PA that is a Right Wing hotbed of the PA hinterland.

It’s funny to hear the closeted gay guy talk about “their Reichstag,” as if the Dems are Hitler in this case!

Of note, you hear their threshold for the Capitol was that only an unarmed, veteran, female demonstrator was killed, and then go on to discount the deaths caused and multitude of other injuries…to people in riot gear to protect their lives!!

Just another day in the lives and “I saw worse from BLM” (wink, wink!) and “Look what ‘they’ did in Kenosha!”

“Racists! Table for 12. Right this way, please.”

THIS IS THE DESTRUCTIVE NATURE OF FAKE NEWS ON FOX, NEWSMAX AND RIGHT WING RADIO ZEALOTS!

I drove from Phoenix to Chicago last month and listened to Right Wing radio for a while. It boggled my mind what the hosts were saying, but literally scared me to hear the callers’ comments!

As they say in those parts…
“That’s fucked up!”

Republicans dream of States Rights, because it’s the only way they grab control. They have learned that the Secretary of State is very, very powerful and are running MAGA candidates HARD in swing states, so that THEY CONTROL THE BALLOT BOXES AND WHAT HAPPENS TO THEM!

One would think you’d care about VOTES and trying to make sure EVERYONE CAN VOTE if you’re the party of the righteous, but they have to keep the ne’er do wells and evil doers from corrupting THEIR STATE, so you have to keep them AWAY!!

50 counties cobbled together, with more stitches popping every election cycle Republicans don’t like the results. It’s as if their gerrymandering isn’t working well enough that they have to only count the votes they want to count!!

THAT is not the America of the Founding Fathers and the flag they wave in irony!
