Terrorist attack on asylum centre

Sorry but Calais is in France - France as a sovereign nation has control over its borders - we cannot introduce any infrastructure there.

The answer is simple

1/ like any other country allow access to the UK so they can make an asylum claim
2/ like a grown up country fund and staff the asylum claims so that people are not in overcrowded places intended for a 48 hrs stay maximum for a month or more instead
3/ when you show yourself to be a grown up responsible country use that as a starting point to negotiate repatriation agreements for the few that seem to fail in their asylum claim

Its not really that hard - but as long as we are governed by an amateurish group of clownish truth twisters who's sole way of hanging on to power is to stoke up a racists xenophobic or scared base that they are very good at doing the current rinse and repeat will continue because it suits their methodology.
The UK border is literally already in Calais with infrastructure.

Have you never travelled via the tunnel?

The rest of what you’ve said doesn’t really offer any solutions at all, in fact there’s not a single idea of what to do.

The people coming here are better informed than the race hating rabble throwing petrol bombs who just get their news from the Mail. As of Jan 2020 they were well aware once they get here we cannot send them back to France ( our choice that was ) - they also know that Rwanda expect to take 200 a year for their £150m................100k coming here and 200 deported - they are odds they will take.

You see you fall for the BIG IDEA of Rwanda because you are told its a bold move by the Govt and the press. People outside - including asylum seekers can see what a hollow threat that is - thats why the Govt moves on a ramps up the rhetoric every day - you cannot be allowed to absorb and process the truth or you may ask awkward questions.

This issue was raised regularly since the referendum - it was always denied it was always part of Project Fear - its odd how every warning raised has turned out to be a truth eh? Its almost like some people could understand the facts.
No I haven’t fallen for it, if you’re going to go off on rants about what I may or may not think I won’t waste my time.

My replies are in the last few pages of this thread about what I think we should do and you made the very stark mistake of not knowing where the UK border actually is.

It’s a bit depressing that there has seemingly been little condemnation of the perpetrator of this attack, given that’s what the thread is actually about, despite it being a terrorist incident on our shores.

It can’t really be called a terrorist incident, can’t it, as he’s been incited/encouraged by government policy.

Why would France allow that without payment? They simply don’t need to care.
We have a juxtaposed border with them and can process migrants how we wish to, but it’s also within their benefit and will reduce crime in the area.

What better alternatives have we got?

Create more processing centres and not needing to house these people in camps for months/years waiting for a decision?

France will want money from us to set up an asylum processing centre on their soil.

If we had 70,000 people, that we didn’t particularly want, leaving the U.K. to go to France on dinghies, do you think we’d stop them?

Especially given the conditions we allow them to survive in currently.

Hmm - not sure many are crossing on the Eurostar.

The rest of what I said is a grown up approach to the mess we are in

That first bit is what I am saying too.

Yes, because we would in theory be taking more genuine refugees.

The criminal gangs organising this need to be stopped via a joint effort but we don’t have serious people in charge to cooperate.

No but if they knew the UK border had a refugee processing centre they would surely go to that, rather than risking their lives crossing the Channel in a small boat.

Let me guess - somewhere in the Channel? Even though we have passport controls and the like in Calais that is not the UK Border - its something set up as a convenience for all parties but it is not the border - its centuries since we had a border in France

The official geographical border is in the Channel but due to our Juxtaposed controls we have, in agreement with France, the majority of border controls for crossing the Channel are done before you board.

It is on operation as the UK Border for several modes of transportation between Britain and France.

It’s the best place to process refugees.

What ideas do you have ?

If we behaved like grown ups and tried to employ a proper approach to things we could sort stuff out with the French. I have read the Albanians aren't trekking across Europe to get in votes the gangs fly them into France on commercial flights and they travel from there. If we stopped pissing about with the EU threatening to break international law and launch A16 etc etc maybe we could ask the French to work harder on denying men from Albania ( a non-EU country ) entry into the EU at their airports - just a thought

Criminal gangs have never been stopped via law enforcement.

You stop criminal gangs by destroying demand.

70% of people crossing the channel get granted asylum. The Conservative government is propping up organised crime gangs by forcing legitimate refugees to use them.
