You can see why Foden tries to hard when on the pitch Southgate does not believe in him! Foden needs to just run around closing down players when he has it pass it back then do the same again once Pickford hoofs it up field!

But think about that EB just for a sec -V USA and one of our centre backs is arguably best player on the pitch !
I know, that’s why I said a little comfort.
The stupid clod of a manager is to blame for that debacle. We needed Foden to team up with Grealish.

I suppose a consolation could be if we don’t get through the first tranche our players will not be as tired when they come home!!

In the past this may have been true but not now. I look back to the early takeover years even up to the start of peps era and there was a real worry about filling the home grown quota not just for us but the other top teams too because the English players weren't capable of playing at the top. Nowadays, we've got 5 players in the England squad, none of them are at City primarily because they're English. We've sold a 6th this summer, we've had strong public interest in 2 others in recent years and if reports are to be believed could be in for Bellingham too. That's the majority of a complete side and there's quality beyond that too. The ability of the squad isn't an issue here.
Totally agree, we have the makings of a good team and I think we'd have a decent chance IF we had a decent manager.

i came into this world cup with dirt low expectations of the england manager and the teams chances of actually winning the thing.
literally, nothing has changed my mind. in fact, im even less enthralled by this world cup than when it started.
at the core of english football administration is an inept philosophy that will never bring any silverware, or produce a competitive team.
anyway, another day closer to proper football coming home.

Grealish for Sterling
Foden for Mount
Now
Not with the waistcoat it fucking won't. He's picked a team, they've played a shocker and the stubborn arse can't see shite. Zero tactical nous, just intense loyalty. I reckon he'll pick his missus to play central mid cos he's fucking loyal.....

Yes, you're spot on to be honest. You would think he'd learnt by now though.
Not sure he should have. There's nothing on his cv to suggest he's capable. He was a failing under 21 manager after failing to hack it at Boro that fell into the job because the FA desperately needed a yes man that wasn't going to create any off field headlines after the Big Sam debacle and were then too lazy to find an actual replacement.

When he's eventually ruined England's best chance of winning and goes, he will get a few opportunities off the bck of being such a high profile figure fail miserably, get sacked and will either never be seen again or do a Paul Ince and take any lower level job he cn get his hands on and continuously fail time and time again.

Let’s not forget this fucking waster has overseen England being relegated to the Nations League ‘B’ division. Have a look at our results since the Euros. He’s a clueless fucking waffler. That answer to the ‘Foden’ question says so much about him.

USA were definitely the better team, with their effective midfield making the difference.

The ball will advance through midfield, with wide players providing passing options. Circulation seems rather easy in tight spaces and their players are confident enough and technically adequate to keep / run with the ball if needed. None of the above is self-evident, it reflects Berhalter's work: The cohesion is there, they're mobile, well drilled and well organized, and they can function in a 4-3-3 or a 4-4-2. Haven't read posts, but for people impressed with Tyler, they obviously haven't watched him at Liepsig. Good, reliable player (who can operate on a number of positions on the pitch). Calmness in terms of decision making when arriving in the final third / box is what they missed, and they definitely can expect more from Pulisic (a matter of form) -plus Berhalter should have introduced subs earlier so as to maintain intensity and sharpness...

As for England: Sterling's and Saka's explosiveness / penetration ability and Kane's hold up play, inteligence and finishing will always present danger for opposition. But for the team to function in that structure, England's attacking strategy needs performances from both Bellingham and Mount. Then the fullbacks will get into the equation as well, and the puzzle will seem more complete. These two (Bellingham, Mount) underperformed. Sterling and Saka will eventually leave the pitch, so will Jude. The manager could have gone for Phil, could have gone for Gallagher. He chose Henderson, the most conservative option. Southgate was scared shit from what he had already witnessed, also obviously thinking that a draw would 99% secure England's qualification to the next round...

US were the team asking questions till the end, enjoying more possession as well as more final attempts. Which would most probably have been the reason had they lost: They obviously needed the win more so would take more risks. Had Kane scored with that header in injury time, it would have been unfair. England hardly deserved a draw from this match -and I will assume that the vast majority of English fans agrees with that statement...

Needless to say, final matchday of Group B is bound to be dramatical, one way or the other...
