Old Maine Road photos thread

Couple here

That’s interesting. I don’t recall the Platt Lane ever having reserved seats. I thought it was always sit where you like. Unless the numbers were purely for keeping track on how many they’d sold?

You’ve got a better memory than me, they weren’t my pictures as coincidence would have it Worsley sent me a few old pictures yesterday.

Weren’t there numbers painted on the benches?

Great picture of “The Tartan Trio” there, Neil McNab, fabulous player, always rated him VERY highly, very one footed but similar to Bernie, had that lovely close control, twist, turn and change of direction .

It was a great atmosphere in the old Platt Lane, especially when it was kicking off in the 70s and 80s
What you cant see are the two tunnels near the back of the platt lane stand, we used to sit behind one when we were kids, there were also two sets of steel steps which were long and steep, you can see the opening at the back for one set. Also the big tunnel you can see in the corner, as you walked out towards the back there were another set of steps but built inside the ground which took you up to the back corner of the stand, that was another place we liked to sit. There were toilets also next to the steps in the corner. Spent a lot of time in the Platt Lane as a Kid, along with the Scoreboard end.
