I happened to see him live when he was 17 for Barca (was on a stag) we went to see Ronaldinho because he was the best player in the world at the time and had strung both Whisky nose and the Rags along which was an added bonus.. but Messi completely outshone him. Wasn’t even close.

Anyone who says he isn’t the best to ever play the game needs their head read. Maradona could have have possibly been in contention but he really didn’t look himself properly lol.

Although the fact Maradona is still in the argument despite being off his face on white and a terrible diet tells you how good he was also..

I dont think the Aussies will complain too much, the Argies were a lot better. I'm not a Messi fanboy but that's probably the best I've seen him play in a world cup, not against the best opposition of course.

As a Australian we never realistically expected to beat them, most of us just hoped we'd show some fight and make them earn it and we did that and didn't disgrace ourselves. Sure they could've scored more late on, but they didn't and Kuol puts the late chance away who knows what would've happened. Can't help but think Behich could've gone down for a penalty shout but fair play to the lad for keeping his feet, almost scored one of the goals of the tournament.

For context football in Australia isn't a huge sport. It's barely supported by the government here in comparison to the other countries at the World Cup, it lags behind the AFL, NRL and rugby union here and is treated like shit in its coverage bar when we make the World Cup. The local A-League isn't the best standard, and fails to draw bumper crowds week in week out, but if we can grow the game out of what we achieved at this World Cup there's hope here.

It's been a great ride for us Australians, we gave Argentina a fight, and Messi had to play arguably his best game in his World Cup career to knock us out. I'm one very proud Australian after that.

I've watched all the games (possible) and have not seen one team that's impressed me. The football has been sub-PL top 6 standard imo and just makes me miss City even more.

I don’t think the panel blew smoke up the Argies arses. Not even Zabba.
The fact is they deserved their win but they are not great if you take Messi out of the team. He really should have had three assists except for woeful finishing from others in the box. Thankfully not our Julian.
