I couldn’t put a piece of paper between them when they were both in their prime and I certainly don’t get the BBC gushing over Messi in every WC match when he has been average. If England don’t win it I hope Croatia do.

Really? Ronaldo wasn’t even close to having the ability Messi did. Messi was the only player to rival Maradona in terms of skill. Ronaldo is no where close to that level of technical excellence. A great great goalscorer, yes, but not the amazing natural ability of those other two. Messi had the goals of Ronaldo and the skill of Maradona combined.

Portugal was wank in this match... their passing just was incredibly bad, their attacks lameless... they tried throwing themselves to the floor all the time instead of actually playing football... serves them right to go home... they can be absolutely awesome when they actually play football but to many times they dive, try to cheat etc

I agree. It used to be that the spearhead of a team was so important and it now seems not so. You look at the teams in the WC, other than Poland, who has a true out and out striker who can finish? Bluemooners will tell me, but off the top of my head I can’t think of one other than Lewandowski and he’s passed his prime now.

When i watched Spain versus Morocco i didnt think i would witness a more inept performance from a top european national team , but Portugal have just surpassed it, they were pathetic.
Both lost to a team a well organised team that most Championship teams would beat , not one of that Morocco team would get in Spain or Portugal's squads, i was never excited about this world cup and the fact a bunch of honest toilers is now in the semi-finals only confirms the lack of quality on show.
England or France will be rubbing their hands having to face Morocco to achieve a place in a world cup final.
