How do we resolve the Brexit mess?

Keep seeing this thread popping up and it’s fucking annoys me so so much just because anyone with a half a brain cell would of realise the catastrophe of coming out of the eu to this country?
Sadly, you are completely wrong.

I know many hugely intelligent people who simply couldn’t see it - despite what logic was screaming at them.

The propaganda that Boris the puppet, and the ERG were instrumental in putting out was clearly compelling to many, who have since realised what a monumental fuck up it was for the UK.

I know a number of people who are clearly intelligent, and yet voted for Brexit. Some has since admitted their error, and that they were taken in by the Tory campaign.

Others I know are in denial and still believe that it was the correct decision, and also state that the Tories goverment will sort the mess out, although I to say that I believe they are too embarrassed to admit the truth to themselves, and certainly not openly.

The only people who I know who voted Brexit who you could argue were in the more intelligent half of the UK were being dishonest about their reasons for voting for Brexit if they claimed it would improve the county. I’d say they did it because they don’t like foreigners much or they secretly wanted a hard right regulation-free economy. Brexit simply didn’t stand up to any kind of basic scrutiny right from the off.

Whilst there’s a correlation, Intelligence and sense don’t always come in tandem. Same with decency. Some of them didn’t give a shit about the impact on others.

As the comedian Stewart Lee famously opines in one of his monologues, "It wasn't just racists who voted for Brexit; cunts did too."

I think I can say with absolute certainty, that although not everyone who voted for Brexit was a ****, there were certainly a higher proportion of cunts that voted for Brexit.

A mate of mine, who is fairly intelligent, said it was the 'sovereignty issue' that motivated him.

I asked him what sovereignty he had exercised in his life, apart from over his personal life. I also put it to him that the shit voting system we have means we have virtually no control of politicians in this country, still less the elected dictator that the PM effectively is. (The PM has powers that Charles I would have thought excessive for the monarch.)

During the last 12-18 months he has pretty much given up talking about the issue, but from what he does say I gather he now thinks the country dropped a huge bollock.

As soon as the results were in I was in action mode to leave the place, it was blindingly obvious what was going to happen. Vote was in June 2016, by 5th December 2016 I was on a one way flight to New Zealand.

if he had bothered to understand what sovereignty actually means he would have known it was a non-issue.

I think the reports about splitting this country up somewhat are bang on point.
One of the many grim outcomes of the 'win' was the empowment it gave some. They felt more confident of airing some of the more nefarious right wing views.
"Too many 'Polish' kids in my kids class", "London is less than 50% native"....

Then the teachers got it, then then the trans, then the strikers, the metropolitan bubble ad nauseam.
Working class blokes who lived out their 20's working in Europe resorted to looking up to Rees Mogg as some kind of fucking saviour.

Brain rinsed just as much as the Qanonce lot.
I've said it before but it's damaged an old friendship of mine.
How do you repair something with views like that? What do you have left in common?

Couldn’t we just have another vote get brexit undone
No because they won and we lost and do we want best of three and we are just sore losers and the EU is going to implode in a few years and it would have been great if everyone got behind it and in any case it was worth it to piss off the sensible people. And Bob Geldof of course. Never forget Bob Geldof.

I would dearly love to join you but we are too old and too poor (Can’t raise the £1/2m needed).

Thing is, I know this thread can resemble an echo chamber on the subject matter at hand, but there will be plenty of leavers who will lurk. No fucking danger.

I can speak from personal experience, that to win an argument against the odds is an amazing thing to experience. But there are limits to what even the best advocate can achieve. If you’ve got truly shit material to work with, then it’s pretty pointless, no matter what you say, and how you say it, in support of your argument.

How this thread could do with someone brave and articulate enough to advocate the case for Brexit as of right here, right now.

Any takers?

Yeah in another life I would of done the same..

Those whom you would not normally view as a **** but voted for brexit must surely be regarded as someone who had, albeit a very short, episode of ‘cuntness’ during the act of voting.
Sadly, the ‘cuntness’ not normally associated with these people coincided with the vote.
In view of the result of the ballot however, I for one am not minded to forgive ‘cuntness’ no matter how temporary in this regard.
Even the briefest attack of ‘cuntness’ can have seriously long-term effects.

Advocating the case for Brexit seems to be repeating "You lost, suck it up", or something similar. Explaining the benefits of Brexit (sunlit uplands, unicorns etc) seems beyond all leavers. They won a vote but lost their (and our) futures.

I heard some reasonably cogent (albeit wholly misguided) arguments for Brexit in 2016. I’ve heard none in the last two years.

There used to be someone all over the brexit thread outlining why us remainers were wrong up until around when the pandemic began. You’d never see him post on any other thread on here, every other post had unfettered access copied and pasted into it. Can anyone remember his name and does he still post on here? Would love his take on the slow car crash the country is in now.

The place is beautiful but there are definitely different challenges to living here, some are becoming less of an issue when compared to the UK in its current guise, but my monthly gas and electric bill was 80quid this month and I'll be spending Christmas in the Pacific Ocean. I'll just ignore the higher mortgage I currently have to pay off.
