To most its arguably the most pointless game in world football, up there with a mid-table clash at the end of the season. I imagine it might matter to these 2 though.

Never heard a convincing argument for this nonsense of a game. Losing any semi final is arguably the biggest disappointment in sport. To have to hang around for the best part of a week afterwards so the squad players can play a friendly is just taking the piss.

Completely agree. It’s a complete waste of time, and slightly cruel.
 
Never been a fan of this 3rd place game even in 1990. With a mid season World Cup it should have seen the death of it for good. Although it won't stop me trying to get in Khalifa on Saturday to watch it. Such a hypocrite me.

I was saying to the missus—who was excited to watch the match—that not even the players in the match are excited to play it. And that if third and fourth really needs to be decided, it should just be based on the tiebreaker system (including the knockout stages).

I think the teams would be perfectly happy with that.
