I think Gomez could be the worst left back I’ve ever seen.
He’s never a left back that’s the problem. Clearly got away with it in Belgium but this is a huge step up in quality and he’s being found out defensively.

What to expect mixing out of form players (Cancelo, Phillips) and those not ready for a difficult away ground (Gomez, Palmer) and add Walker as CB just for fun?

Thrown away. Well done Pep. Great invitation for struggling Saints.

When I saw the team tonight I really thought we would be really fluid….I’m not sure the formation is to blame for the absolutely diabolical passsing or lack of a press.

Has to make at least a couple of changes. Gomez and Phillips off, Akanji and De Bruyne on. Cancelo, Palmer and Gundogan all deserve hooking as well.

Perhaps Sterling, Zinc and Gabby offered better combinations. Not necessarily better players but more movement and more threat. Certainly in games without Kev and Haaland.
We employ a system that gives us all the possession in the world, but makes chance creation difficult...i think we are beginning to see a hangover from playing this tired system for so long.

I miss the more pacey approach of the 2017-2018 period.
