"doesn't impact the players ability to play the ball"

That's what Walton and his cronies are peddling, of course he fucking does, how is this even a debate? it's not all physical either, his mere presence changes the defenders decision making ability.

if you're saying he's not touched it, you're basically saying he's as good as not there, so take him away from that scenario and you don't see akanji and walker make the same movements they made with him around the ball, they go directly towards the ball, he's therefore making a very clear impact on the opponents ability to play the ball.

Then there's ederson who approaches the ball because Rashford is running clear through on goal and sets himself for his shot, if he's not there and it's just Fernandes behind akanji and walker, ederson isn't anywhere near where he was.

His run has impacted 3 fucking players

"but he's not touched it"

...because we were beyond shit 25 years ago doesn't mean we can't criticise now.

Compared to how we were playing, just last year, we are a shadow of ourselves.
By all means have a view on how we played in a game ... but we are by no means anywhere near being a shit team, in any way shape or form. That was my point.

Read he law here:

  • a player moving from, or standing in, an offside position is in the way of an opponent and interferes with the movement of the opponent towards the ball this is an offside offence if it impacts on the ability of the opponent to play or challenge for the ball; if the player moves into the way of an opponent and impedes the opponent's progress (e.g blocks the opponent) the offence should be penalised under Law 12
He doesnt stop or intefere with Ederson moving "towards the ball"...neither does it impact on Edersons ability to play the ball

Where the rule is wrong is that he impacts on decision making....but the rule above seems to only take account for physical actions

He was clearly attempting to play the ball and makes an obvious action which interferes with impacts on an opponent playing the ball - the latter because Ederson stopped & anticipated a shot from Rashford; Akanji ran towards Rashford's run, rather than a blocking run towards Fernandes.

If we had scored that offside goal not a chance in hell it would have stood. They are now cheating in full view, credit to Pep and the team for the last few seasons of success whilst dealing with it, but they have increased it a level and we can’t compete with that.

Remember it’s not good for the PL brand if the same team wins every season.

Equaliser should not have stood….then a carbon copy of Madrid away and you just knew they would get a winner….we really do lack leaders.

Played better for first 30 mins of second half but still didn’t get the ball into their box quickly enough.

Just before the equaliser we had started to give cheap and careless passes away…especially De Bruyne and Walker and needlessly started to concede possession which led to breaks for both their goals.

With this team, one goal is rarely now enough to win a game.

I think it shows how far our levels have fallen because United, although well organised, were not great.

Walker, De Bruyne (although both didn’t play badly) need replacing sooner rather than later.

We have the best centre forward in the world but now rarely give him (or Alverez on Wednesday) any proper service.

It’s not the end of the world, but doubt we are good enough to win the Champions league or the premiership.

It has become so much about control that we appear to have forgotten that to win a game you actually have to score. In our case we need to do it more than once.

Exactly.

Pep is so obsessed with keeping control and not giving up counter attacks that we've stopped scoring, lost control and given up counter attacks.

This has a worrying sense of the end of the cycle under pep possibly? The players just aren’t there imo and if this form continues over the next couple of league games we are in a fight for top 4 let alone a title race.

That’s my worry, it’s gets too bad and Pep thinks I don’t need this and fucks off

So, I take it that we can now have Foden 30 yards offside and Haaland on the half way line, boot the ball in his direction for him to then chase down while the defence all have their arms in the air. and in the meantime let Foden run onto th ball to score the goal?

Seems fair enough.

Some final thoughts - a lot of our play from the back is so slow it is easy to set up against and defend. In the past Eddie has been able to break the lines with unbelievable passes out which helps negate that. Yet again today he opted for 5 yard passes most of the time and on the two occasions he went for a more telling pass it went straight out. Is this a deliberate change of tactics or just lack of confidence? Either way with the way our back four played today it meant Rodri and Bernardo had to keep dropping so deep for the ball it led to having a huge gap to Haaland and that makes finding him very hard.

We are so unbalanced now as a team. Phil and others need to have a hard look at how they are trying to influence the big matches - I thought we'd see a big reaction but again our left hand side (Cancelo & Foden), until Jack came on, looked more concerned with throwing hands up in the air and pointing to others - not great and limits us big time.

Pep needs to get to work on how to play with a powerful centre forward in the team. You could put Benzema, Haaland and Mbappe up top for us and they would all be starved of the ball. IT IS ALL TOO SLOW... We scored because one time we got behind them and pulled the ball back. Surely we should be doing this about 10 or 15 times per match.
Spot on ..MR HJ... Could not be arsed writing it so pissed off..Games bent.
