Pep’s Spurs (H) Post-Match Interview

Pretty sure I heard an interview with Pep a few years ago in which he said the best time to have a go at the players is when they are winning/have won. Adding that after a loss, criticism is counter-productive.

I have no idea how things work in the dressing room of a professional sports team but with Pep managing the egos of players at City, Bayern and Barcelona whilst being highly successful and working under a great deal of pressure, I can only presume he understands how to press their buttons to deliver results.

Problem on this occasion he's pressed 40k worth of buttons,I say 40,as there was 53 on last night,3 Spurs,50 City, but 10 will no doubt sit back and enjoy the outburst,as you are aware I'm not one of them

He was neither erratic and unpredictable last night.

Stone cold pre-meditated rant and it's what makes him the best of his generation.
He was totally in control of himself, he repeated the message in multiple press conferences.

He got what he wanted to say out there with no room for ambiguity.

Basically saying that the whole club, players, supporters staff, have become complacent and need to wake the fuck up before the season is gone.

Exacly what we've all been seeing every week. Gundo said the same last week.

Lets see what the reaction is, the 2nd half last night was sensational, if we get everyone firing at that level we will blow everyone out of the water by miles like we used to.

Even taking into account the improvements around us, no team in the PL can get close to us when we play at our best.

People saying last week that Gundo should not have gone public in what he said.

FFS do you think the man did that without Pep's blessing? Pep told him to do it, because he clearly was not getting his message across in the dressing room/training ground.

Last night was a genius man motivator at work, it was sensational, even more so that the comeback.

And I also thought Gundo for all his faults was the driving force in the attack for that comeback.
Yes Jack and Mahrez had it, but I thought the leading by example was coming from Gundo.
You need someone on the pitch to just take these moments by the scruff of the neck sometimes.Ilkay and Rodri as security did that.

We are way better than Liverpool
But when they had their success against us at anfield (every year) it’s because the crowd intimidate the ref, their players, our players, pep
We need to do that now to teams
Beat arsenal in the cup and plant seeds of doubt in them for the two league games
The non offside call for rashford at old trafford. If thats at the Etihad for one of our players that goal gets ruled out.

A point that’s kind of been lost is that it seems Pep is not too happy with the board either and he’s playing a bit of a public game with them to get more players in the summer. In my opinion, making a point that our net spend is not that high lately compared to our rivals and saying he wants more from “the whole organisation”, can only mean one thing… even the board are resting on their laurels. Pep has probably laid out to them how much of an overhaul is needed for us to be winners again, and they mustn’t agree. First signs of a disagreement between him and the board imo. At least in public anyway. He’s at war with board, players and fans and I find myself 100% on his side. He knows what it takes to win, and to win consistently. And we don’t have it any more.

I don't think so. I also don't think he would have signed that new deal without those assurances.

Just watched Micah response to pep after Match interview! Said sound like he has had enough! Micah you been with Carragher to long you 100% wrong and so so out of touch with Manchester City! You’re playing the crowd! Totally disappointed with him
Agreed Micah was piss poor last night with all his comments perhaps the emotion of the come back got to him or perhaps he tries too hard to distance himself from being a fan. Either way his comments were verging on stupid last night and certainly unhelpful, Izzy Christiansen was good though whilst the hateful Carragher was gutted we had come back

I wonder if Pep himself feels he has become complacent?

Agreed but there have been a couple of times where I feel Tixki has dropped him in it, no LB, the Kompany replacement and maybe even the Kane non transfer, a player Pep clearly wanted very badly.

With the latter, we ended up with Haaland for me a much better option but I do wonder if Pep would still have Kane over him (?)

Absolutely not, not a chance that that is correct.

I don't think Pep will ever lay into our board on the Press. The group is very close knit, and they have all each other's confidence.

I wonder if Pep himself feels he has become complacent?
Maybe this is as much a message to himself as anyone else. He's lost a strong voice next to him on the bench and maybe thats something the club needs to look at.

In hindsight we can now see how important the No 2 seat is in Peps coaching team.

Not knocking anyone btw, just maybe a stronger voice required.

What generates an atmosphere normally? What’s happening on the pitch, so slow passive boring build up isn’t going to get the place rocking is it. Added to that the awful pricing of this rearranged game, silver ticket holders probably not all going so they can cash in on the tourists. Pep can piss off with sticking the boot in as he has done before. We aren’t entitled by the way, if you quote where we’ve come from you have a small time mentality. We are a powerhouse of English football and up until the second half yesterday, we haven’t been good enough for a while.

I personally think the interview he did with sky sports in particular is a masterclass. So articulate and clear also (sometimes he can be a bit vague). He holds all the cards and is always a step ahead- it’s not as if he had loads of time to prepare what he would say after the game either. He knows the right thing to say in the right situation. A true genius and a privilege we have him as a manager.

Micah needs a word in the ear after last night.

Actually I thought Spitty was very good in his comments. He's a twat no doubt but I sensed that he respected what had gone on there in the 2nd half and he also recognised the greatness of what was said afterwards.

Cnut that he is, Spitty has seen a lot in football.

If Pep is bothered by the fans”Apathy”,maybe he should look at the Apathy” of the board. For years the media have thrown shit and lies about the OUR club, response from the board zilch, nada.and recently after the vile Liverpool transgressions where a young lady was injured, the board didn’t,t have the balls in their statement to mention it was Liverpool fans, the statement said fans. Then the Pigmol pantomime at the swamp last weekend.

You say it wasn't uo to our standards but I think in recent years our support is not up to the standards of the football we have been blessed with

But what standards of support are people expecting, mate? I don't see it anywhere else, either?

Our football is more like watching a beautiful opera than an Iron Maiden concert.

As I mentioned, I think the demographic has changed, exacerbated by a generational void of City and, football in general, monetising the arse out of it.

It's a middle class sport and younger fans have been priced out for a couple of decades now.

There's a drive to create a spectacle, we only had to watch that light show before kick-off last night, a desire to crave acknowledgement, recognition.

We aren't going back to the days of Munich and You're Gonna get your Fucking Head kicked in. That's an era when grounds were intimidating and as a teenager, you stood with your mates and didn't really mean to offend, but only to get the rise out of the opposition fans.

I think Pep is wanting a hostility which can't be delivered, outside of booing the opponents in possession or the referee.

I'd argue there are few better atmospheres when Liverpool have been in town and it is the same fans who helped City come back from the dead against Villa when we saw a glimpse of hope.

Certain games or situations will get more of the juices flowing, it has always been that way.

Perhaps Pep might also realise from the team playing without the hardbrake in the second half, the urgency on show, that the fans became more engaged as a result?

Pep will have hated the risks in possession we took, but it's the way to go. Both in terms of results and not sending the Etihad to sleep.
