Nadim Zahawi

A recent report declared that the UK has done more to harm international tax arrangements than any other nation and is the global centre of tax avoidance. When you are telling the most vulnerable that essential services cannot be afforded, that nurses cannot have a decent pay rise, or that schools have to let staff go to meet budget, there is something very wrong. There is now an estimated 21 TRILLION POUNDS of tax avoided wealth in the UK territories. Meanwhile, Rishi's wife doesn't live in the UK, Rees-Mogg has his business registered in the Cayman Islands, and Zahawi pays millions to HMRC. This has to be a wake up call, but cease and desist letters have allegedly been issued to all the main broadcasters, despite the Zahawi issue being firmly in the public interest.

I could only find Guardian and Independent (and maybe the Mirror) reporting on the £3m payment needed.
Zahawi's lawyers threatened all and sundry when the story broke last year.

Ive seen a few comparisons to Lester Piggott. AFAIK, Piggot went to jail for Tax Evasion....for Zahawi its tax avoidance...with a lot of people, including a tweet posted above, that Zahawi has done "exactly the same" as Piggott.

As far as i know, tax avoidance isnt illegal...just morally questionable, especially for someone who was Chancellor...are people just conflating the two?
Morally questionable might get you a junior position in the Tory party, being as bent as a nine bob note will get you a place in the cabinet. Evil, obnoxious and morally bankrupt mean you can be Home secretary.

anybody else struggling to believe that a man who "accidentally" claimed on expenses for heating his horses stables did nothing wrong with his taxes but paid a 30% surcharge for late payment presumably "voluntarily"

What the fuck is happening in this country? We are on our arse and a top member of the a political party is still in a job when he has committed serious financial misconduct with regard to paying taxes.

Forget all the bullshit and rhetoric, forget the distraction tactics, it’s very simple. This man is seeking to use his power to take food out of peoples mouths and should be seen as the link between the very rich and the super rich.

Crumbs, beg for it you bastards.

One of the most dislikable charlatans in politics. Wrote a story giving his backing for Johnson to come back as next PM only for Johnson to publicly withdraw 5 minutes later.

Then with no shame, re released the story but backing Sunak not long after.

What's the point in rishi sunak if his government is the same as Johnson's but without the charisma and the same as Truss's but without the erg backing.

If he wants to win back votes surely he should just fuck off zahawi et al. and clean up?

Professionalism, integrity, accountability…

To paraphrase: I wasn’t a beneficiary. It was my family who benefited.

So, are you not a member of that family?

what is painfully apparent is that Sunak's tenure will echo that of Johnson. The Zahawi saga is probably only the start of a number of issues that will have to be teased out by the press and investigators bit by bit and it will be the same death by a thousand cuts to the Sunak Govt. The idea that Zahawi overlooked something but then corrected it thus incurring a £3.7m penalty but thats all normal just won't wash and we can all see where this story ends up.
Meantime when Jenrick, Gove and today Raab go on TV defending him they do draw fire away but they draw it onto themselves. Do they not think that doing it arouses some journo to look into their doings - Jenrick still has to explain why he overrode civil servants advice and waved through Richard Desmonds property development plans days before a rule change and after attending a dinner with Desmond - Gove, a self confessed drug user, couldn't balance on one leg the other day and Raab's account of the "closed" sea as Kabul fell is proving to be some distance from the truth.
There is plenty to look at in the soon to come post Zahawi era

Well it's also hard to believe he was careless and unaware when he was told he was being investigated for it 3 years ago...
Why the fuck are leaders giving him cabinet jobs if hes being investigated for 3 years. Should be squeaky clean to be an MP full stop, never mind chancellor!

And why hasnt sunak immediately fucked him off , but he hasnt. Incredible really
