Juanma Lillo | Leaving the club before the CWC (p52)

One of those threads that will look funny in a few months.

It isn’t though really is it,you are putting that on the presumption we still win the league, and fingers crossed we do,but it’s a totally different scenario as to what’s being discussed in this thread, his subs are too late, you know it,I know it,everyone knows it

Pep is a football genius, but that doesnt mean that he doesnt need someone strong to guide him in certain situations .I used to work with someone who was absolutely brilliant at solving mathematical engineering problems, huge calculations in his head, but he couldnt see the impracticality of his solutions sometimes and needed people to point out that although his idea and calculations would indeed solve the problem the amount of work needed to do so outweighed the solution. Pep gets so wrapped up in the game he just needs someone to point out the obvious sometimes .

I think Kompany would've been a decent assistant ito. succession planning and his style with Burnley, but missed the boat with him going Anderlecht

Something is missing because I don’t think we have evolved recently. We can play like gods one minute then just totally switch off. Our football was more consistent & enjoyable in past seasons.

This season we seem to be much slower & pass sideways much more. We used to be explosive on the break.

Maybe not having a fit back 4 or pace on the wings is an issue.

We always seem to take one step forward 2 back. We get a striker but defence goes to shit. We sort defence then we miss a striker.

We will always be judged on champs league & I don’t think we are any closer to this. I think Arteta was a big part of our success

I said on the match thread that I'm a bit confused by this narrative that has emerged. Seems a bit too easy tbh, and I don't see how we could possibly know one way or another. It feels like clutching at straws, seeing patterns when their aren't any, like the belief that Gundo can't play with Rodri or we are better when Kev doesn't start from earlier seasons.

Joking apart though with him being the best coach the game has ever seen,it baffles me that he can’t see when we need subs, astounding
Reminds me a little of Remington Steele.
We all thought that Pierce Brosnan was Remington and the head of the organisation and making all the decisions.

It was only at the end of the final episode that we realised that Stephanie Zimbalist was the brains behind the organisation

He needs a press assistant who stops him talking bollocks to rag journos feeding them anti City material before a game. The players must read these stories and maybe results in these sub par performances.
I doubt the players take any notice at all. Most of them not too good at that reading lark.

Lets blame the assistant now :)

I think one of the problems Pep is dealing with now is Haaland

Yes Haaland will possibly break all records & win the golden boot...etc but we might finish below 2nd this season because of Haaland.

We are becoming too predictable & maybe too reliant on Haaland.

Last season without a striker, we scored more than PSG,Madrid, Bayern & the rest

Now we have the best striker in the world, but we are lacking the X factor ( un predicted player showing to make the difference )
In the 80s, Everton signed Lineker, then Englands best striker, and failed to win the title which they won the previous year with Andy Gray. Lineker left for Barca after one year and Everton won the title again. Royale and Heath?

What do you lot think of Lampard as a number two for pep similar to arteta? By all accounts Pep thinks highly of Lampard's ability as a coach. It may be a good opportunity for Lampard to learn and rehabilitate himself.

Fuck sake - spit coffee all over my shirt, this stain will never come out.

Don't worry Frank I'm sure you'll get another opportunity soon enough
