Cancelo has been a brilliant player for us. Treated us to some incredible moments. He was also a huge part of the most successful period in our history. Something has obviously gone on, but no one knows the full details, so let's not dramatise the situation - these issues happen in all teams, it's just a part of life.

Totally agree. It is a raggish and dipperish thing to do, to say that anyone who leaves your club must be shit, by definition. It just doesn't work like that. There's rumours flying around, and there seems to be some foundation to them. If Pep didn't want him, that's good enough for me. Cancelo is not the best full back even in the north of England — an obviously absurd statement by his wife about him being the best full back in the world!! (Love is blind…). But his skill at putting a ball into the box is sometimes breathtaking.
By the way, people, he hasn't gone. He's on loan. Doubt he'll come back, but he may. If we hold out for the kind of cash we want, he may have to come back, and we may find a place for him. Stranger things have happened.

If Bayern don't take him then he'll be off somewhere else, albeit at a lower price if he doesn't get the German Golden Boot! For all intents and purposes he's gone. And some would say good riddance.
 
Wait and see what Bayern pay, but amazed if they take up the option without trying to reduce the fee.

I think it was the quickest get rid option Pep had, we'll get about £40m for him if we are lucky.

I think Pep wanted to teach him and some other players a lesson, but things went too far even for Pep's liking. Maybe Pep didn't realise that it felt humiliating for Cancelo to get benched for a CB and a teenager. Or he realised it...Pep's only human. Let's hope what's happened will help the squad to perform better.

Yeah and that's my point. Cancelo doesn't want to come across as petulant. (Which is why he said what he said). He wants the move, city want the move. I don't see why we won't get what he's worth. Especially if he plays well for bayern.

but whatever happens we've removed some poison from the dressing room, well done city and Pep... Needed to be decisive.

The only rumours are the stuff people are making up on here and some jumping to believe it, because anyone pointing out it looks like bollocks 'wasn't there' which must mean it is true. Heck I've seen it claimed on here that Foden hurt his foot shoving it up Cancelo's arse. Were you there to know that that Didn't happen?

I used to think he has come kind of seasonal affective disorder, remember last season from Oct'21 to Mar'22 he was best full back in the world. then the sun comes out and his form goes down.

that theory was blown as he's been poor for circa 70% of matches this season.

I’m not sure about that Corky mate? Why would this half season’s loan fee be taken into account to Bayern’s benefit?

You cartoon cats generally know best but from what I can make of it, if the deal today is that they pay a loan fee and then can buy him for X amount in summer then that X includes consideration of his contract with us being half a season shorter by then . . which would apply equally to any other buying club.
My view is that by summer the loan fee already paid will have been paid for services already rendered and be water under the bridge / not a new consideration at that juncture.

My assumption is that his sale in summer will be to the highest bidder, subject of course to his willingness to move to which of whatever clubs are bidding.
IMO Bayern’s only advantage will come from him loving the lifestyle / social scene etc. and them charming the pants off him, so that they become the place he wants to be but, as with any player sale, we’ll only sell subject to receiving our valuation - which will be competitive for sure if, as it looks, we want shot of him.

He’s actually an extremely good player and I’m hoping that he rips it up in the softer German league so that his market valuation increases thus making the X discussed today seem a bargain by summer.

Another thought is, have Bayern got any players that we might want to consider in a part exchange?

Nothings debatable, he's been pap. If you want to go down the one game in isolation route, let's do Lpool away.

City found out early on [during his first season] that the player did not happily accept being on the bench...in the World Cup, he did show his other face again. When not chosen to start, he was a disruptive presence. Lost interest, clearly upset, seemed not to listen to manager chats, did not seem focused in training…all that happened in the last few weeks with Pep [Guardiola] when it became clearer after the WC he was not an automatic first choice. [He was] disinterested, deactivated. He would talk loudly about his situation, incapable of dealing with it.

His team-mates would try to talk him out of his attitude with no success. A lot of what Pep mentioned about the side in recent press conferences (lack of hunger, etc) was referred to some players, including him. Every season Pep would like to replace 4/5 of the key 15/16 he uses regularly. He could be one of them if things do not change.

The relationship between Pep and him has not broken down fully but he has been allowed to leave for six months to see if it can be recovered at the levels of confidence and attitude necessary to stay as a City player.

Did some research into Cancelo, he's had this same attitude at every club he's been at. A few snippets of info leaking at Juve of him being pissed off at being on the bench and not playing champions league games, annoyed at the manager for talking about him after Juves exit out of the champions league wanting to leave, asking his agent to get him a move

he was on loan at Inter and was annoyed at being benched for a couple of cup games. Had attitude in training for Valencia but they continued to play him as he was a top prospect.

He was better than the other defenders at Old Trafford, but was treated like he was the worst and didn't play after that. What happened at Anfield was 3-4 months ago. And it's one thing to fail against Salah, it's another to fail against Garnacho...I like Ake for the same reasons Pep likes him, but he's far from perfect at LB. He's very limited in playing from the back and through the oppo's press, and that will be a problem in some games. It was a problem against a weakened Arsenal side, we had a very, very poor first half going forward.

Pep had his reasons to drop Cancelo after United, and I'm sure they weren't silly. The problem was mostly one of poor communication. Apparently, Lillo could communicate with Cancelo and explain things to him, which helped us win two titles in a row (with Cancelo assisting crucial goals vs United and Liverpool last season). Pep couldn't and things went out of control.

What I don't understand about someone like Cancelo is that the quickest route back to consistent football with Pep is giving everything in training and everything on the pitch. Pep, more than any manager I've seen, will forgive mistakes and errors on the pitch if he sees tactical discipline and execution of a game plan. He'll let players play into form if he sees they're doing what they've been told to do (Grealish and Mahrez better than any examples this season). Getting in a funk and losing your head is the quickest way to be out on your arse. Proper self-destructive behaviour.

He's let himself, his teammates, and coaching staff down very badly by (apparently/allegedly) being unprofessional.

I've never changed my opinion since my first viewing of him. In my opinion, he's not a very good defender, and is a good, but limited, footballer generally. On this season's form, he's been one of our weaker players, and not good enough for a regular place.

In a nutshell, his alleged bad attitude and underwhelming performance have made him expendable.

In my view, he's probably engineered this move, most likely he or his agent having been 'tapped up' by Bayern.

As I say, he's not a ****, and I wouldn't go as far as to say that he's hated on BM. However, I'd be very surprised if you told me that he's the sort of player/person you want to see in a City shirt.
