PL charge City for alleged breaches of financial rules

A question. When it comes to the financing of football clubs, other than commercial revenue, what is more acceptable, third party debt (like Man Utd) or quasi equity (like Chelsea)? If City have been funded by inflated sponsorship deals routed through Abu Dhabi backed companies, surely the effect is the same in terms of generating funds. Or am I being a bit thick?

It’s got to the point that I just want this done quickly. Whatever happens I will follow city and the thought of another few years if this shit hanging over us is worse than being relegated to league 2 or wherever.

It won't be allowed to go quickly, that's the issue.

It's a win-win for the Premier League and the lobbying clubs.

It's a guilty verdict in the first instance, barring City having a strong set of recordings or emails showing this is a witch hunt and irrefutable.

At the very least, they and our rivals know we would appeal until which time we exhaust every avenue up to the High Court.

In the interim, it materially damages us both on and off the pitch. Players we are interested in might look elsewhere, players we have, might demand to move elsewhere.

Commercially, we would be off limits to pretty much everyone but our Abu Dhabi partners.

The timing also conveniently addresses the white paper delay and comes as we still battle for three trophies.

We win something, it is further smeared.

We don't win anything, it has also played its part.

It would be a transfer ban in all but name and clubs such as Chelsea and Arsenal can crack on, while United and Liverpool become more attractive to investors because City's competitiveness is diminished.

Clear and orchestrated, which is why at the very least, it will be medium to short term pain until we clear our name.

We will lose the battle but win the war. Perhaps our rivals are more than comfortable with that.

Makes you wonder doesn't it?

One thing I noticed in that Independent piece that @Ric linked to several pages back is that City are the only one of the so-called "Big Six" clubs who are in favour of an independent regulator. Make of that what you will!

Its the yanks latest (if not last) throw in their play book...that article also says -

'an american cap and collar franchise system' as the alternative to the independent regulator - oh i wonder which clubs want that to be brought in and have been lobbying the PL to get it signed off

That is what this is all about

They've all got where they are due to having money pumped in, the problem is it's historic... Arsenal moved to Highbury for money, Liverpool in the early 60's etc... HOWEVER, this doesn't mean any of them are not guilty of serious financial misdemeanours during the PL era... we all know - as do proper Rags - that Ferguson and United got up to some proper dodgy shit... their transfer dealings for players like Bellion and Bebe to name but two, the incentivees they offered kids families to have their kids join them... etc. etc., but does the hard proof exist?
Totally agree BUT what NEEDS to be said is WHY we have City, Chelsea, Newcastle's its because historic monrey has created these cartels, Scouser on R5 should be pulled up. But oh no all that money pumped in is ignored but thats where their wealth comes from now. No one ever says this. Outlr chance is now..on R5 need some good ian st john examples. Anymore anyone? Lol

The club not cooperating with investigation into the past 5 seasons is a bit concerning to be honest.

The only logical reason to cooperate with investigations into 2008-2017 (the period covered by the hack) and not cooperate over 2018-2023 is that the punishment and reputational damage for obstructing the investigation is better than what would be revealed if you did fully cooperate.
I'd say city feel they have cooperated as much as they need to and can. Its up to the league to prove we haven't. Again I'd say that it's all to do with these payments to players and managers from outside city. Something we would never cooperate with as it would show our guilt ( If true)

Yep I’m desperate for it to be over with too, I’m sure we all are, but the consensus seems to be months or years.

Hey er, is anyone insterested in a 'Super League' concept...?

I think this question actually cuts to the heart of what this is about.

I believe we will end up with a fine for being awkward but thats all.

The time this will take is the worry, we need to sort the on field issues out and it could cause reservations for top players to join us.

We're being "made an example of" and being "used to show the league is competent". It's not even a fucking surprise! Week in, week out we see the bias against City. Just look how every single game we have key decisions go against us. Follow any kind of media and you'll see they are out to get us. It hasn't been subtle for years.

Of course it's now being blown out of all proportion by the same authorities and same media. Seen too many rags and dippers creaming themselves that we'll be stripped of our titles and have them awarded to their own shite teams who weren't good enough to win them on the park.

It's all a load of ballocks, but it didn't just start yesterday - it's been happening for years. They don't want us to be good. They can't stop us on the park, so this is all they have left.
It's because the media and the PL are the puppets of two teams (with two hanger's on) we all know it – what amazes me is how shit scared all the other PL teams seem to be of them, and just fall in line with them... what they want is nothing but Liverpool/United dominance... and behind it all is American money... said it all along, it's not Middle East investment people needed to worry about, but the Yanks... slowly but surely they're taking over the game... buying PL teams, trying to bring in the Super League - now they're after a 25% stake in the Bundersliga
