PL charge City for alleged breaches of financial rules

Not really new information but at least this side of the story is out there.

Interesting read. Rational, no hysterical hypotheticals about our death penalty. And not written by a City supporter. Would be good if some of the City supporting media types took note of the content and tone.

Interesting point in the article is that we’re the only club in the top 6 who favours an independent regulator and therefore at odds with the Premier League.

Which bit are you trying to highlight there? The bit about Etihad and the £67m is on page 68 of the award, paragraph 231-234.

Oh sorry, the paragraph where CAS says the evidence clearly shows that the Etihad sponsorship was not funded by ADUG.

I thought you were saying the opposite.

For anyone worried and letting it affect them looks like we will be worried for a long time as this is going to play out over years

united fans at work talking about how they're gonna celebrate their PL wins and which of our players they're gonna cherry pick.

Just offered my (lpool) work Director a£10 grand bet that this won't happen....he shut the fk up...I then stated that of course I had earned the ten large thru illegal side payments outside the office.

Agreed. We'll be made an example of. They wouldn't have bothered with a 4 year investigation if they didnt have strong evidence. The independent commission will feel pressure to throw the book at us.
Yes I think we are in trouble too.

Any chance PL have thrown this over just to get it over with? Pressure from other clubs too much and they don't really care if we win?
People seem to think this is in at least some way linked to the white paper and certain clubs not wanting independent governance. I am not sure how you fend that off, if this all turns out to be an incompetent witch-hunt.

I still can't make my mind up if the PL think they have a strong case or not. On the one hand, they have gone so big on this, that some would argue that they must have a strong hand or think they have one. I've even heard some respected City fans on these matters say that(Stefan I think).

On the other hand, it raises some questions for me.

Does it really add up that:

It took 4 years because City didn't co-operate. Yet they STILL came up with strong evidence(the bar will be high) for a massive claim of 9 years of falsifying accounts?

If they had that, would they really need to find 100+ claims, for a nice headline to brief the press with. Before anyone at City had time to prepare statements, inform their employees, shareholders and so on?

If the PL's approach was applied to a club doing transfers in the transfer market, I'm pretty sure the phrase "scattergun approach" would pop up. "One of these has to be right".

So, you could make just as strong an argument that the PL is not showing the energy that someone with a strong hand would show. It's like they are hoping City are forced to hand over some info that helps them make their case. So they know themselves, they've yet to prove their claims.

It's not a good look for the Prem whichever way you slice it..
That's what puzzles me. Surely they should be lauding City's achievements, including all the off the pitch stuff the City Football Group have done around the stadium and surrounding area. When you compare how we are run to how the Glazers have run united it beggars belief. There's something more to this, other clubs are involved in my opinion. Why else would they say on Sky that "other clubs have been pushing for these charges to be brought"?

Get a grip. You can live in delusion if you like. I think most City fans would/have appreciated understanding the nature of the allegations and consequences IF the charges are proven (I made it clear that this was IF).

It isn't a fair criticism (IMO) simply to say I am too negative. It is, unfortunately, inconceivable the Panel doesn't throw the book at the club if these charges are proven. It is an ALLEGATION of wholesale false accounting over 9 seasons. I have said it will be extremely difficult for the PL to prove the case and highly complex and sensitive. I believe I have the understanding and experience to speak on the subject.

But again, I stress, IF proven we have a huge problem and telling me I should be embarrassed misses the point. The board will be the ones embarrassed and a lot more. Don't shoot the messenger.

Do you think they have to prove it though?

UEFA didn’t and they still dropped major charges.

Obviously you’ll know better than most on here, I’m guessing the burden of proof is going to be lower than in a proper court?
