The BBC | Tim Davie resigns as Director General over Trump documentary edit (p 187)

I agree but that isnt the issue. Is it?
No it isn't, because all of this bullshit has been manufactured so that we talk about anything other than the actual issue.

The worst criticism you could give of Lineker is that his comments have basically allowed the government to shift the attention from their horrific policies to the comments of an ex-footballer.

Like Neville and others, Lineker uses his media profile to air political views. I've no problem with that. He works for a national broadcaster though and so there is a difference. Jump to itv or go back to BT and no problem for me. But you don't get two be in BBC as it is and use it to sell your own message.

Personally I wouldn't employ anyone who refused to work on the football today if they were contracted to. Give opportunity to others and let them find their feet. Let the football be the product, not the personality. Not that there's a single person I'd miss from the list of people who have withdrawn.

Potential to be the least biased and most informative motd in years if they manage it right.
He hasn’t though has he? He didn’t appear on the BBC to say what he said. He was on Twitter which to my knowledge, is fuck all to do with the BBC.

The issue is getting lost. The issue is lineker comparing trying to solve a problem with nazi germany. Ridiculous
Ill be voting the tories out at the first opportunity for what its worth .

So now your bollocks about Lineker wanting no checks on illegal immigrants has been called out the issue was Lineker using the same comparison as holocaust survivor Joan Salter did in January, making national headlines?

Lineker signed a 5 year deal with the BBC under which he was bound to maintain political impartiality and having snubbed his nose at that on a number of occasions, the arrogant twat’s latest indiscretion finally was the straw that broke the camels back. Good. I’m fed up with the smug tosser. And btw, it’s totally irrelevant whether you agree with his views or not. As for those boycotting the BBC now ‘in solidarity’, I’d fire the lot of them…bandwagon virtue signalling prats.
Nothing to do with him being ex spurs….

Also Per this thread by someone who worked in the BBCs editorial complaints department for 20 years, a sports presenter talking about politics on social media is literally the example they use of something that doesn’t breach guidelines.

Linekers a prick.

We REALLY do have a huge problem with illegal immigration. We cant have boat loads coming over without any sort of limits or checks. We have to do something, we need to find the ones who need our help and restrict the ones that dont.
Lineker saying what he said isnt a help.
Oh yes it is if it exposes the total over reaction by the Tory cunts to the problem and the vile language they use.
Hundreds of millions want to come here!
Fuck off.

Which brings us back to Andrew Neill and Alan Sugar - who both very clearly fall under this categorisation - not being policed.

The BBC clearly aren’t right here, and that’s why the reaction from other employees of the company has been so universal. Either they’ve overstepped their guidelines or they’re guilty of only enforcing the guidelines when someone crosses the government and allowing pro-government celebrities to say what they want.

Why is this thread such a problem for you ?
If you want to comment on Lineker and what he said go in the politics thread.
This thread is about whether Motd will be better without inane waffle.
Motd will die without the commentary and pundits. We know football, so we don't really need that fluff. But most casual viewers don't, and that will turn them off.
If I watched rugby, or curling, or water polo without a commentator I would still enjoy the spectacle, but I'd be lost when contentious, or tactical, stuff happens.

Which brings us back to Andrew Neill and Alan Sugar not being policed.
I guess that comes down to their profile. Lineker’s (quote correct views) are broadcast to nearly 9m people and he’s heavily associated with the BBC.

You may have a point with Sugar but I’ll admit I’m unaware what he’s said or done as I blocked the **** years ago.

Really.

Where exactly is the groundswell of support for Lineker, outside of the clique of overpaid BBC Sport presenters who play the game and seem to spend all of their time laughing at each others’ jokes, and of course left wing Twitter types who latch onto anything or anybody who criticises the Conservative Party? There isn’t any.

All that happened is that Lineker made a stupid, lazy and ridiculous comment comparing government policy to Nazi Germany. I suggest, frankly, that he has a few history lessons and he simply shouldn’t have made the comment. He then refuses to retract the comment - specifically the reference to the Nazis - even though there are a thousand ways he could have retracted it while still making clear his opposition to what the government is doing.

His BBC chums then back him because they’ve forgotten that they are paid to do a public service and, frankly, because they don’t want anybody upsetting their little club, which pays them all very nicely thank you very much.

Meanwhile, people who rely on the BBC doing what they should be doing - i.e. providing a public service - miss out because Gary Lineker wants to throw around references to Nazi Germany. The whole episode is ridiculous and just shows how far removed the BBC has become from what it’s actually supposed to be doing.
162,000 signatures so far disagree with your lazy inaccurate analysis. In fact what you write is so wrong I doubt you actually have read what Lineker posted.
