To get the right to stay in Spain The minimum qualifying investment is €500.000 into real estate. Larger investments such as a €1m bank deposits, or purchase of €2m shares in a Spanish company or Spanish Government bonds are also eligible.
Several other EU countries have similar schemes to allow you to buy the right to stay.
Of course if you have EU nationality for any EU country you are free to settle anywhere in the EU apart from Austria, Slovakia and the Netherlands who only allow dual nationality by birth.

Bulgaria being in the EU means you can only get a visa for 3 months before having to return to the UK . You can return to Bulgaria after a week in the UK for another 3 months then repeat same . It’s a pain in the arse destroying so many retirement plans , we were looking at moving to southern Spain but those plans now firmly on the back burner until the situation changes . Brexit an absolute disaster:(

Not sure I understand what you mean, but it’s a lot easy to CHOOSE to not be fat or live in a castle when you get to retirement than it is to suddenly be able to have the money to do what you want.

Heresy as it is on these pages, but I don’t see retiring as a millionaire (excluding your live-in real estate) as a bad thing.

To each their own, but I don’t have the “luxury” of the NHS, and Prudential says a retired couple needs at least $300,000 to fund their healthcare in retirement, and with Social Security and other incomes being taxed (often at the Federal & State levels), the gross number you need just to have a decent net number.

You see that’s the problem it’s not the rich twats who end up paying as they tend to move their capital in to tax efficient assets
Just ask Mr Lineker who earns his “wage” via his own company and not as an employee on PAYE through the BBC.
At the same time ask about his film company investments to keep his tax bills down.
A great example of a Champaign Socialist like all lefties they are all for it as long as they are not paying.
It’s left to the poor bastards on PAYE who have to make up the shortfall caused by over spending or if it’s done via borrowing tomorrow’s generation.
