Ironically there is some truth in part of this I think. My memory is hazy on the detail now but I think during the civil rights movement in the 1960s black people were encouraged to buy guns to protect their communities - the reasoning being that it's harder for a white gang (or police officer) to harass a black person if there is an armed dude on the corner.

As I keep pointing out......and you keep ignoring, we have a large gun ownership and don't go around killing school children.

There is gun ownership in many, many countries in the world and they don't go around killing school children either.

What is the difference between all these countries and the US?

If the other many many countries can have guns without killing school kids but Americans can't we have two options. Remove the school kids or remove the guns

Genuine question - would they still hold that view if it was their kids that got killed in a school by a shooting ?

You would hope not, and you would hope they would never have to find out....but...there would be people here who's answer to something so horrific would be to double down on the amount of guns they owned.

Schools around where I live have a policeman on duty - elementary (junior schools) tend to have one cop between two schools, but middle and high schools a full time cop at the school.
I used to work at a children's home and once a week I'd get a call from Officer (whatever his name was) saying he had (name of the kid) in his office as he'd been kicking off and would i come and collect him.... and I'd have to go to his office where the kid would get bollocked by the Dibble and warned about future conduct.

Fuck - even libraries have an officer sat at the entrance playing on his phone every time I go to one of the 2 near to me.
No idea what they are expecting to happen but there they are. Ridiculous

Same here. We also have one - sometimes two - sat in their cruisers at every Walmart around me.

Haven't seen them outside supermarkets here, it's a nice town, not much happens..... I just don't get why they have a presence inside the library.

Unfortunately, thanks to 2A, the mindset over here to "combat" these school shootings (see what I did there) is backward. It's not how do we attempt to restrict or remove guns so that no more children are killed....it's how do we add more combative reinforcements to our schools - be it adding more cops, adding more guns, adding additional security protocols, adding more guns, adding bullet-proof glass, adding a few more guns...Yes, arm every school to fuck so that any outsider gun/s that attempt to force entry will be outnumbered. Yep, let's Fort Knox-ify every singly school, that's the solution. It's so fucked up.

If you ask the average American, other than the 2nd and the 5th ammendment, I doubt many even know (or care) about the 1st, 3rd or 4th.
That bit of paper is the thing that enables them to keep their guns as there is no other logical reason why it should continue
