Just because you can doesn't mean you have to nor makes it right

The purpose of curry, sold in fish and chip shops, is to cover up the taste of bang-average (or worse) chips. I have often indulged for that very reason, not least at a former workplace, where the nearest chippy's chips were always undercooked and indifferent. If you cook proper chips, there is no need for it at all. But curry often makes poor chips quite tolerable, if you are hungry.
 
Most dishes have a sauce on them. A good read ( sort of ) if you're interested is a book titled Le repertoire de la Cuisine by Escoffier. It's basically a recipe book but with no weights and measures, you'll be surprised just how many sauces the basic Salmon or Sole for eg. can be accompanied with.
Rhubarb sauce is great on trout. Beats those damn nuts every time.

On average, chippy chips are awful: under-cooked, soggy, flavourless. These days, you need a mortgage to afford them.
 
Curry really originated in India at the time of the Raj. The purpose was to mask the flavour of meat or fish, slightly past sell by date, owing to the high temperatures and poor refrigeration techniques

Same for rancid meat.

An acquaintance has tomato sauce on donner kebabs , nothing against a bit of chilli sauce or garlic mayo but ffs ketchup is just wrong
