This Year's Pension Increases

My take on the pensions increase is that I never take it into account whichever party deigns to give us a rise. I paid PAYE all my working life (a full stamp not the married women's one) so I feel that I am entitled to the rise. I receive no other benefits and, apart from Family allowance as it was then called for the three younger children, never have.
So I am sorry I've paid my dues. :-)

And because I paid into the Teacher's Pension, which was compulsory, I am slightly over the limit for any other benefits. Not that I want them apart from a Blue Badge which costs very little. The people who don't have an extra pension need it more than me.

So I vote for other issues not pensions rises. :-)
Small point of order EB, but the state pension is not a ‘benefit’. You paid in, as you were told you must, and now you are taking out.
Over 55% of payments from the ’social‘ goes on pensioners so they like to dress it up as benefits spending.
If they paid the going rate they could stop topping up on pension credit, winter fuel payments, housing benefit and the like but it suits the politicians to not so do, even though it adds huge amounts in administration costs.

The majority will but it won’t be even close to enough.
You might be in for a shock :/

To be clear, I'm not a tory voter, but the alternative offered from Labour is weak to say the least. On the subject of pensions, because thats what this thread is about, have they offered any assurances of maintaining the triple lock? Not that I've seen. Yesterday (or the day before) Starmer was asked about the Waspi situation. Of course he used all the correct buzzwords, but when pressed refused to offer any real insight nor indeed any real support, saying it's a matter for the courts.

In short, both parties are as bad as each other

You forgot to include your free bus pass/ £10 Metrolink and train pass in your OAP benefits Sheila.
I used my buss pass to get from my nephew's house in Acton to Wembley and back on 22/04/23 and it cost me sweet FA .
(And I definitely don't mean those initials to stand for Football Association).

I reckon you're telling fibs.

I think basically both parties believe that the triple lock is unsustainable, but neither dares to outright say it because it's political suicide. It's basically who blinks first.

not voting..the worst of all. You give up the right to have a moan about anything political. Just shut up and take whatever comes at you. Harsh but true.
Nope, had this discussion before on here, I'm making an active decision not to vote because I don't trust what any of the fuckers say. Put someone up who even hints at being trustworthy, has a semblance of a plan which doesn't revolve around rhetoric, and answers a question when asked, and I'll be off down the polling booth faster than a scouser to the benefits office. Until that time I'll continue my refusal to accept whats on offer

I think you're absolutely spot on

I used to be paid weekly (yes I know very weakly) but now have elected to have my pension paid directly into my Spanish Bank in euros rather than my sterling account in UK. This means I get paid in a 4 weekly arrears pattern.
