Listening to Marcotti and Laurens and they seem to think he actually has limited options.

  • Barcelona is out due to financial situation. It's pipe dream stuff.
  • MLS wage cap restricts his earning potential so Inter Miami seems unlikely. He'd have to want to transform US Soccer.
  • Saudi will pay him a shedload but they doubt he will want to do it; he has enough money.

No mention of City.

I reckon he'll go to Saudi.

Still think if one of the big PL teams comes in he will be in England next season.

Just don't see a player of Messi's quality moving out of Europe next..he is still top 5 in the world and could be the Ballon d'Or winner by the end of the year.

Unlike Ronaldo, Messi still has a couple of leagues he could visit before his time is up.

The interesting piece is why is Ronaldo trying (as reported) to get out of Saudi after 4 months. I sense elite footballer now playing with players well below the standard there used too which leads to frustration. All the money in the world can't change that.

Messi is even younger and surely thinks he can still play at elite level. Who knows :-)

Messi would 1000% be a designated player in MLS meaning he could be paid any amount without it negatively affecting the wage cap.

Barcodes Champions league footy premier league and a barrow full of cash for 12 months maybe.
Eddie Howe seems to be ruling out any marquee signings, hopefully for him he gets his way on that one as I think he's right, they need to build up the squad first. All our early marquee signings (Robinho, Yaya, Tevez) created issues even though they were great players and the problems PSG have had with that approach are obvious.
Get the building blocks in place and then sign the stars when they don't see it as them doing you a favour.

They're far too smart for that. Newcastle are actually a threat to us - unlike Chelsea and United, it looks like the owners have the brains to compete with ours.
Just with him allegedly not having many options and Messi visiting Saudi recently 2+2 I suppose mate.

He's going to Saudi, primarily because he is starting to seem like a greedy bastard at heart.

Having effectively won everything domestically and at international level and about to hit 36 if I was offered £350million a year tax free to play in Saudi Arabia I would snatch there hands off and grab the cash and be penning a 2 year deal before they changed there minds. Poor fella has only earned over £1billion in his career so far and has a family to keep in retirement.

Having seen his wages at Barcelona I think the greed has been there a while.
He could have taken a reduced salary and stayed at the club he “loves” when they wouldn’t pay him what he wanted he couldn’t get out of there quick enough! He’s absolutely loaded. Didn’t need the money. He’ll go to whoever offer him the most simple as that

Hes the best to have ever played the game. If I were him, I'd be looking to earn as much as humanely possible before retiring as well. The guys been a phenomenon. In a class of his own and in my opinion, worth every penny he's ever earned.

Good luck to him.
