Etihad Atmosphere - 2022/23

I try not to get too flustered about early leavers, but a 3pm kick off on a bonus bank holiday in a mild overcast day probably goes to show how much of this is cultural and habitual.

It’s mainly season ticket holders who are leaving early out of habit. It doesn’t happen really in the champions league when season ticket holders don’t attend

In 117 so my view may have been distorted. Lots of singing in SSL1, sometimes many different chants at once, mixing in with the noise from the Kippax Corner who were good today. SSL3 didn't get involved as much today which meant the chants didn't spread around the ground much. Mostly clap alongs being sung which didn't help either, but when they got going they sounded great.

Thought Leeds were quite good in terms of noise, but some of their chants like WWYWYWS showed they were clearly not self aware. Outside the South Stand post match there was a little scuffle, saw some fat bastard Leeds fan giving it then shitting himself when a police officer started pushing him down the side of one of the buses parked up. Looked like a child about to cry when the teacher tells them off.

The early leavers were taking the piss as usual. Absolutely no excuse on a Saturday 3pm, especially when it's only the second last home game in the league during a title race. It's an unfortunate habit amongst many these days.

Overall, not too bad but nothing special. Could have been better but definitely not completely silent like some are suggesting.

Good post .
Sums it up inside the Etihad today .

Has nobody mentioned that in the Blue car park they have opened the rear gates onto Alan Turing Way as soon as the mass of walkers on that far end of Joe Mercer way have cleared. They’ve done it the last three games and we’ve been off and away no more than 10 minutes after we’ve got back to the car, and we stay to the very end of the game and applaud the players.

The streams of people leaving on 80 mins today was embarrassing.

There were some going around the 75 minute mark. I think the Leeds fans spotted them and started singing 'your support is fucking shit'. In any game I think it's poor but given the context of where we are in the season it almost feels like a complacency and entitlement. You're probably watching the greatest team you'll ever see in your life in potentially its greatest ever season. There's thousands of fans being priced out of going and witnessing this and you're that indifferent about seeing the lads secure the 3 points you'd rather head home.

Let's be honest, Leeds didn't pose any real threat going forward but I don't believe it would have made a shite of difference and they'd have left anyway. I think we are too hard on ourselves with regards to atmosphere but the early leaver syndrome is harder to defend.

I'm sure because "red 2 hats" gives a shit, people who need to leave a little early (as it may save an hour on their journey home) will stay till the end so "red 2 hats" doesn't feel alone when clapping and wolf whistling the players.
You do you, red 2 hats, and let others do as they please. No need to get triggered by something so trivial.

If we're in a position to win the league against Chelsea, will you stay with myself and others and enjoy the possible celebrations or will you still leave with 10 minutes to go and save yourself an hours travelling time, if you decide to stay it shows your argument is bullshit and you just follow the herd.

Why are you bothered?

I almost always stay till the very end, unless I have to be somewhere straight after, which is very rare. My point is.. people leaving early for whatever reason they do, shouldn't impact on you. Its doesn't effect or impact me.

That’s a great point. Every Champions League game this season has had loads of non season ticket holders sit near me and they definitely stay longer than the usual fans. Maybe they just want to appreciate being at a game?

I sit in SS3 and I can understand why fans might leave early because it can take ages to get down the stand and then queue to get out of the concourse to the exit steps. I’ve also sat in the North Stand and got out of the ground in less than a minute!

When the ground empties I always remember watching from the Kippax in the 70’s as a long line formed in the Platt Lane as fans left early. It always started with 20 minutes to go and it must have been out of habit. ‘Part time supporters!’

It definitely impacts the team though especially in 2-1 close games we should be making it hostile for leeds instead of Turning back on the players.

Think I read when they lost the European Cup final to Munich they believe they were robbed and actually deserved to win so have decided to claim victory.
Strange bunch!

I was being sarcastic as I knew they'd never been then champions of europe.

Thanks for the explanation though as I didn't know that. Well there you have it!.... the scousers aren't the only victims in football!

I’d agree about appreciating being at the game, but I honestly think lots of season tickets holders don’t really enjoy going to games. They go out of habit and because it’s what they’ve always done. it doesn’t matter what the game is, what the score is ,they’ll leave early.

You might disagree, but that’s my impression . I know quite a few season ticket holders who only really go to have a catch up with mates and the drink in town afterwards

Where have I said it impacts me, it doesn't, read my original post, they've paid their money they can do what they want, do I like it, no I don't, do I think it looks shit, yes, but it doesn't impact me in the slightest.

I know what you’re saying. It’s almost as if football is not the number one priority in the day. They probably don’t add to the atmosphere either but they do ‘pay good money’ for their season ticket.

It’s an expensive habit these days if that’s all they go for. Considering we’re in the middle of a cost of living crisis, we must have a lot of rich fans with money to waste.

I haven't read through all the replies but I was there today, block 119, lower tier South stand and the atmosphere was great almost all game. Lots of different parts singing constantly. It went a bit nervy after their goal but aside from that it was great. Leeds fans were very loud though as they always are. That didn't make our efforts poor.
Where do you sit mate as I'm in that location
