Real Madrid (A) | Post Match Thread

THE BOYS IN BLUE DIDN’T GIVE IN, THEY FOUGHT TO GO END. THANK YOU CITY, THANK YOU LADS, THANK YOU FANS. YOU SHOWED ‘EM, YOU SHOWED ‘EM ALL. BOY DID YOU SHOW ‘EM. ESPECIALLY THAT LOT OF LEG BREAKING ATTEMPTERS (allegedly) ESPECIALLY THAT BIASED, HORRIBLE, SPECSAVERS NEEDING MEDIA, BUT TONIGHT FROM ALL I HEARD VERY MUCH ESPECIALLY THE CHEATING, VERY BLIND EUFA REFEREES!

Well done John Boy. I will be voting for you of course but from what I’ve heard via text tonight Eddie, Eddie, Eddie, Ederson also needs an honourable mention! :-)

p.s. I’m so sorry to be shouting but I’m so angry. I had people sending me messages, not all City supporters who were disgusted at the way we were being refereed so I wanted to shout for our hard working boys. Apologies.

If you'd offered me 1-1 before kick-off I'd have taken it. We were dogged and in control of the ball but we did look exhausted especially towards the end (probably the heat). Solid performance.

Have Real ever beaten us at home? I remember that excruciating 0-0 but can't remember them beating us.

Either way, with better conditions and home advantage I think we are twice the team Real are and I'd back us to get past them.

I'm watching BT do a total assassination of our goal, making so much of the ball going out.
They’re not. They’re saying it’s inconclusive, even saying Ancelotti can’t have seen it to protest. It’s ok being Club biased, but don’t be tinted. The entire game was a joy to watch. This is where we are, at the top table.

Rodri speaks to BT. “It is always very tough here … the lads were incredible … they have a lot of quality … the first chance they had they scored an incredible goal … but we kept in the game and stayed with our philosophy … Kevin found the goal and we struggled to keep the ball but at this stadium it is normal … the effort of the lads was incredible … Kevin is a massive player for us … he helped us in the moment we most needed it … he gave us the confidence to keep pushing … it was a good result of us … we knew no matter what happens here it is not the end … we will need the people to support us.”

Listen! for the next week in training get the boys to practice shooting from 20, 25 yards because madrid will play exactly the same at the Etihad. The space and time we had in the middle of the park was criminally.

Bernardo was awful today, he looked gassed at 50mins but to be fair he had to track modric, vini and camavinga at times, still thought Pep would let Foden have a go at camavinga since he was on a yellow.

Grealish has to diversify his game a bit, sometimes run in behind or take on your man on the outside, for me Phil is still a far better player but we move.

Fantastic team performance. Both keepers made great saves and we were in control for about 70 mins of a game away from home against a top side.

Kev - always does it for us in big games, a great goal just when we needed it.
Erling - will learn a lot from this, worked hard but needs to dominate a big centre half and will do in the future, possibly next week.
All others did their jobs and didn't over commit which was important & something we didn't do last year.

Finally how annoying are some of their players - faking injury, diving about, fouling at will with no consequence. Next week we will bring the atmosphere and that will help be the difference - can't wait to give Rudiger some stick.

And, BT are utter shite - can you imagine a Spanish broadcaster willing an English side to win.

We will win next week, there is nothing to fear if they remain clam and engage their attacking players early.

Watched on mute and hence no influence from comms or anything.
Thought the ref was fine
Thought the match was even
Thought we were outplayed on the right side of midfield with camavinga/modric/kroos vs bernardo/rodri that caused problems all game
Hope we put mahrez or foden on out there in second game and force them back to a normal lb
Happy with a draw and move onto the second leg
